Skills/Experience we are looking for:

We are seeking an experienced qualified Solicitor/Barrister or FILEX (with a least 4 years post qualification experience).

Your primary responsibility will be to defend the organisation against civil claims, pre and post litigation, from members of the public, internal officers and staff. These claims can relate to anything from GDPR, wrongful arrest, assault, malicious prosecution, human rights claims and much more. You will need to be flexible with the needs of the force as this is a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

You will have a working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and proven working knowledge of criminal law, police powers and procedures and an in depth knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 with a strong investigative background and an excellent understanding of strategic requirements of a police organisation.

Experience in a minimum of one of the following areas and willingness to develop skills in the others:

Civil Litigation, Public Protection, Domestic Violence, Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Licensing, Sex Offender Orders and Civil Injunctions, Civil Litigation, Malfeasance Claims and Personal Injury Employment Litigation Contract and Disclosure.

Evidence of Advocacy experience is desirable.

North Wales Police are a bilingual organisation and for this role, you’ll need to demonstrate a positive approach towards the Welsh Language and achieve a level 2 is spoken Welsh. This will take the form of an oral test based on the Learning Resources in our Welsh Language section on the website. You will also be required to demonstrate Level 3 spoken skills during the first 12 months in your role, for which you will be fully supported. The support is excellent and takes place in duty time. The level of support is tailored to the needs of the individual.
