Location: South Leicestershire

Salary: 13.50 - 14.50

Job Type: Permanent

Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Overtime: Available and paid at a premium rate

is recruiting on behalf of our client for a skilled wood machinist to join their team-based Leicester Centre on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working on a variety of wood machines including straight line saws, crosscut saws and spindle machines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating Cross Cut Saws, accurately measure, mark, and cut wooden materials to specified lengths using cross cut saws. Ensure precision in cuts to meet production requirements and minimize material waste.
  • Using Straight Line Saws, handle straight line saws to cut wooden pieces along the grain, ensuring straight and clean edges. Maintain focus on quality control to achieve consistent results in the final product.
  • Spindle Machine Operation, set up and operate spindle machines for shaping and profiling wood components according to technical drawings and specifications. Adjust cutting tools and guides to achieve the desired contours and finishes.
  • Quality Assurance, inspect and measure finished products against specifications to ensure accuracy and quality. Identify and rectify any defects or inconsistencies during the machining process.
  • Tool and Machine Maintenance, regularly clean, sharpen, and maintain saw blades, spindles, and other cutting tools. Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure they are in optimal working condition and report any issues to the maintenance team.
  • Safety Compliance, adhere to all workplace safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of machinery. Conduct pre-operation safety checks on all equipment.
  • Production Efficiency, work closely with the production team to optimize workflow and meet production targets. Manage time effectively to ensure timely completion of tasks without compromising on quality.
  • Material Handling, safely load and unload wooden materials onto machines, ensuring proper alignment and securing them for accurate cutting and machining.
  • Documentation and Reporting, maintain accurate records of production activities, including materials used, time taken, and any issues encountered. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding production progress and any operational concerns.

Requirements:

  • Experienced in using a variety of woodwork machines including spindles, straight line saws and cross cut saws.
  • Proven experience as a wood machinist.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Proficient in using joinery tools and machinery.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
