Position overview

The Data Lab serves as an embedded data science and business intelligence hub within the Merchandising Department. The team plays a pivotal role in our strategic decision-making process, employing advanced analytics and machine learning to enhance our merchandising strategies.

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Junior Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable and reliable machine learning models and data pipelines. You will work closely with data scientists and business stakeholders to turn data into actionable insights that drive business outcomes.

Essential duties & responsibilities
  • Collaborate with data scientists and business stakeholders to design, build, and maintain machine learning models that solve real-world business problems.
  • Develop scalable and reliable data pipelines to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Implement and optimise machine learning models using appropriate algorithms, frameworks, and tools.
  • Leverage strong software engineering skills to develop and maintain machine learning infrastructure and tools.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Communicate complex machine learning concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience, skills & knowledge
  • 1-2 full strategic cycles of relevant experience in a related field or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics.
  • Demonstrable experience with RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and data engineering workflows (batch processing, ETL or ELT).
  • Keen interest in development, deployment, and support of machine learning models.
  • Strong programming skills (Python).
  • Awareness of software development best practice.
  • Cloud (ideally AWS-certification) or containerised infrastructure (Kubernetes / Docker) experience would be an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with international teams.
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team in an agile environment.
  • A problem-solving growth mindset, with the ability to pick up new concepts quickly.
