We are looking for a highly motivated Sessional Optometrist to join our Wet AMD services on the bank register. This will cover both Brecon & Llandrindod Wells Hospital. Up to two sessions each week (both on a Friday) are available, but as a minimum successful candidates will be expected to normally work no less than 4 sessions in any calendar month. Each session will comprise the interpretation of OCT imaging and performing Volk retinal assessment to inform supervising medical clinicians of treatment options. An ability to inject or a willingness to be trained to inject will also be a distinct advantage.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner who will provide a broad range of highly skilled core and specialised services. This will involve making patient management decisions that must take account of precise diagnosis, known medical and ocular co-morbidity and the individual circumstances and needs of the patient. Also provide clinical advice and expert opinion to colleagues, as necessary. 

Actively contribute to teaching, audit, clinical governance and departmental administration. 

Procedures are likely to involve the use of specialist and high value ophthalmic instrumentation to a high degree of accuracy. Analysis and interpretation of specialist test results will be necessary to plan or revise individual programmes of patient care.

Demonstrate, or be prepared to develop competence in practice beyond GOC core competency. Evidence this by satisfying competency assessments under the direction of the Lead Consultant.

Qualifications and / or Knowledge

Essential criteria

Masters or equivalent experience

Qualified Optometrist

Registered with the GOC

Evidence of CPD/CET in accordance with GOC regulations

Evidence of additional specialist knowledge through training / extended study to post graduate level e.g. College of Optometrists Higher Diploma / modular MSc

Basic knowledge of  “extended role” of Optometric practice
