Opportunity
We are seeking a Chemistry Engineer to contribute to the development and implementation of chemistry protocols for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) operational site. In this role, you will support a diverse range of chemistry-related areas within the HPC project to ensure comprehensive coverage as needed. Responsibilities include overseeing laboratory builds, ensuring implementation of chemical safety topics, providing technical chemistry support and embedding best practices within chemistry across the project.
Upon the commencement of operations at Hinkley Point C, you will be involved in all chemistry-related activities on-site. Your efforts will be aligned with the mission of the UK EPR chemistry programme, striving to achieve world-class practices by benchmarking against leading industry standards and programmes.

What you'll be doing
- Produce chemistry-related documentation.
- Author chemistry specifications for the operational power station.
- Plan and oversee the HPC site chemistry laboratory builds, fit-out, and commissioning.
- Support chemistry-related design queries as requested by the project.
- Develop and implement chemical safety processes, standards, and training to ensure compliance with legislative and organizational requirements.
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice on chemistry during construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Support and oversee the development of the operational chemistry training program.
- Liaise with external stakeholders related to chemistry, including regulators and industry working groups.
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a chemistry-related field.
- Understanding of chemistry quality assurance requirements in an operational power station.
- Knowledge of UK chemistry-related safety regulations, including COSHH, COMAH, REACH, and DSEAR.
- Strong grasp of chemistry principles relevant to nuclear power plant operations.
- Experience in developing and implementing new processes.
- Scientifically curious with a willingness to learn.
You may also have the following:
- In-depth knowledge of systems in a Nuclear Power Station that support or contribute to chemistry control and chemical safety management.
- Proven experience making operational decisions based on chemistry and plant data.
- Skilled in developing and delivering chemistry training programs.
- Expertise in authoring technical chemistry documentation.
- Experience working within a project organisation.
- Proven track record of interacting with nuclear and environmental regulators.
- Understanding of safety cases and safety analyses.
- Knowledge of fundamental scientific principles of laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong appreciation of the objectives of power plant chemistry.
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
