Residential Support Worker
Location: Wakefield, South Yorkshire

GSL Education’s South Yorkshire branch is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated Residential Support Worker to join our client residential care homes in Wakefield. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable young people by providing them with a safe, nurturing, and supportive living environment.

Job Summary:

As a Residential Support Worker, you will work directly with children and young people living in residential care settings, supporting their emotional, behavioural, and social needs. You will play a key role in helping them develop essential life skills, fostering positive relationships, and encouraging personal growth. Your support will be crucial in promoting their well-being and enabling them to thrive.

Key Responsibilities for Residential Support Worker:

Provide care and support for young people in residential settings, helping them with daily routines and personal development.Establish positive and trusting relationships with young people, offering emotional support when needed.Promote a safe and nurturing environment, encouraging positive behaviour and social interactions.Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions to support the emotional and behavioural needs of young people.Work collaboratively with team members, social workers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for each young person.Assist in the development and implementation of care plans, individual risk assessments, and behaviour plans.Support young people with life skills development, including education, personal care, and independence.Monitor and report on the progress and well-being of young people to inform care plans and strategies.

Essential Requirements for a Successful Residential Support Worker:

Previous experience working in a residential care setting or with vulnerable children and young people.A strong understanding of the challenges facing children in care and the strategies to support them effectively.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build trust with young people.Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with young people who may present challenging behaviours.Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of a 24/7 residential environment (shift work may be required).A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.A relevant qualification in Social Care or Childcare is desirable but not essential.
