JOB PURPOSE
London Luton Airport (LLA) is looking for an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to play a critical role in our journey towards becoming Champions in Sustainable Aviation through managing the company's environmental compliance requirements.
The Sustainability function plays a critical role in protecting today and enabling tomorrow and this role fits into the team's purpose through ensuring we meet our current environmental regulatory requirements whilst future-proofing our operations through the development of a forward-thinking environmental compliance strategy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead the management and further development of the company's environmental compliance strategy in collaboration with internal and external stakeholdersHold a detailed understanding of current and emerging environmental compliance requirements, and make recommendations to meet increasing requirementsPartner with departments across the business (e.g.Legal, Projects, Estates, Technical Services) as well as regulating bodies, to ensure comprehensive management of environmental complianceExcellent understanding of ISO14001 and ISO50001 Environmental and Energy management systems including experience in internal and 3rd party environmental compliance auditingManage increasing environmental compliance in relation to environmental planning conditions relating to water, ground contamination and other environmental requirementsEnsure water discharges to ground, surface water and effluent treatment plants are within environmental permits and trade effluent consents and investigate issues and develop action plans to ensure compliance where requiredUnderstanding and management of climate adaptation risks including implementation of operational changes to address these risk in the short and long-termDevelop or update necessary operations or procedures to ensure environmental compliance across all aspects of environmental management such as water, air quality, wasteKey stakeholder in drainage infrastructure upgrades project to ensure future infrastructure compliances with applicable environmental regulations and meets future needsEnsure emissions testing is caried out on combustion plants including reporting to the regulators including developing plans to reduce emissionsEngage with 3rd party partners and tenants to ensure relevant procedures are followed to ensure environmental compliance and minimise the risk to the environmentWork with internal teams to identify environmental compliance risks and input into the risk governance processStreamline the environmental compliance reporting process across the business through developing a prioritised list of compliance requirements throughout the yearTo support the Net Zero Senior Manager and the wider sustainability team in delivering LLA's Responsible Business Strategy, including supporting on environmental aspects of the RBSResponsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and colleagues in the workplace; supporting our journey to create an open and honest wellbeing culture at LLA.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 years of experience working in environmental management roleYou will bring great technical skills and expertise in relation to understanding of current and future environmental regulatory framework and planning requirementsDeep understanding of environmental compliance in a complex business setting, in particular in Environmental Permit, Consent and Planning condition complianceExperience with engaging with regulators and other stakeholder in relation to ensuring environmental compliance for our operationsExcellent organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines, while working in a flexible and collaborative wayThe ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-changing environmentExcellent problem-solving skills, ability to take on challenges outside of your comfort zoneGood inter-personal skills, with an ability to develop relationships and influence stakeholdersA Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability or similarThis job description is intended to give an appreciation of the role and the range of duties and responsibilities to be undertaken.
