Green Space Minor Operative

A vacancy has arisen for a Green Spaces Operative within the Green Spaces and Bereavement Service Section.The ability to both work on own initiative and be part of a team with a full UK driving licence are essential. The post holder will be required to carry out to a range of horticultural maintenance tasks to a high standard including – mowing of grassed areas, hedge cutting, planting trees and shrubs, planting and maintenance of annual bedding schemes, pruning of shrubs along with keeping sites clear of litter and emptying bins. Plus, line marking of sports pitches.
Principal responsibilities and activities:
To prepare and maintain to a high standard outdoor sports facilities and ancillary features using a range of recognised manual and mechanical turf culture techniques and processes.
To carry out to a high standard a range of horticultural maintenance tasks including mowing of grassed areas, hedge cutting, planting of trees and shrubs, planting and maintenance of annual bedding schemes, and the pruning of shrubs.
To apply pesticides as required.
To cleanse sites as required including the emptying of litter bins.
From time to time to be responsible for the supervision of allocated staff resources including transportation of staff.
As and when required to be responsible for monitoring contractors engaged by the Service to undertake specialist work
To be responsible for the safe keeping and proper operation of allocated fleet and a range of specialist items of plant and equipment needed to carry out the varied range of tasks associated with preparation and maintenance of Green Space and to report any damage and defects to the Superintendent or Chargehand
To ensure that all appropriate health and safety measures and precautions are taken in accordance with the service area risk assessments and safe systems of work
To report to the Superintendent or Chargehand all accidents, incidents and near misses to yourself or third parties that occur whilst carrying out your duties and to assist with any investigations and/or insurance claims
