An exciting opportunity has arisen within the SEND Department, Student Experience, at Kirklees College. The positions of SEND Support Worker will provide exceptional student support across all curriculum areas and college sites.

You will be working with our most vulnerable SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) students to support their learning, achievement and progression into adulthood both in and out of the classroom environment.  You will have to develop supportive relationships with students whilst remaining professional and deliver strategies to promote/reinforce student self-esteem. You will be required to provide physical and personal care support.

The ideal candidates will have previous experience of working with young people in an educational capacity and must understand EHCP’s and SEND. It is essential you have knowledge and experience of different learning needs and using strategies to support students to become independent. You will need excellent communication and digital skills and be able to work under the direction of the class tutor and use your own initiative.

The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and a minimum Level 2 qualification relevant to the post. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.

It’s important that you’re able to demonstrate our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in your role.

Due to the nature of our work, it’s essential you’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

We believe learning is not just for our students: it’s an important part of working here too. Staff development opportunities include a mentoring scheme, financial contributions for external qualifications and skills development for current and aspiring managers. You’ll also have access to a range of staff benefits including an employee assistance programme, retail and leisure discounts and reduced Metro travel.

We want people who believe in the value of education, and who can contribute to our culture of supporting and challenging one another.
