Swansea, United Kingdom Swansea University Full time

Funding providers: Swansea University

Subject areas: Psychology

Project start date:

  • 1 July 2024 (Enrolment open from mid-June)

Project description:

The studentship will evaluate a feasibility study of Prevail to support student well-being in student populations at Swansea University and other higher educational institutions. We will develop a suitable control condition, targeting study skills, independent learning, and time management during the transition to university. This research will form the basis for a future RCT on Prevail for first-year students. The effectiveness of the intervention will be evaluated on impacts on well-being, stigma and self-stigma, help-seeking, and educational outcomes (attendance, engagement, progression, and grade attainment) throughout the degree. These outcomes are directly related to Swansea University’s strategic priorities. If successful, Prevail will provide a low-cost evidence-based approach to supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing.

Eligibility

Candidates must hold a UK bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Upper Second Class honours or overseas bachelor’s degree deemed equivalent to UK honours (by UK ECCTIS) and achieved a grade equivalent to UK Upper Second Class honours, and a master's degree. Alternatively, applicants with a UK first class honours degree (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University) not holding a master’s degree, will be considered on an individual basis. If you are eligible to apply for the scholarship but do not hold a UK degree, you can check our comparison entry requirements. Please note that you may need to provide evidence of your English Language proficiency.

Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is open to applicants eligible to pay tuition fees at the UK rate only, as defined by UKCISA regulations.

Additional Funding Information

This scholarship covers the full cost of UK tuition fees and an annual stipend of £18,622.

Additional research expenses will also be available.
