We seek an experienced, well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to lead these two flourishing A Level subjects. The successful candidate will build on existing strengths and manage the curriculum, teaching and learning in an innovative, rigorous and creative manner and lead the Department into further success. Public exam results are strong, and Politics and Sociology are popular A Level subjects.

The School is interested in applicants who are ambitious about pupil progress and committed to creating a dynamic, rich and broad curriculum. Initiatives to strengthen the exciting extension and enrichment programme will be valued, as will a well-judged and knowledgeable focus on the learning needs of individual pupils. The Head of Politics and Sociology will also have an understanding of the university admissions process and an ambitious approach to girls’ success in the Sixth Form.

The School values breadth of teaching experience, and applications are welcome from those who could also offer some teaching experience in History or Geography or other humanities or social science subjects. Applicants would also receive support if it is the case that either Politics or Sociology are undeveloped specialisms.

Pupils currently study the Edexcel Politics (9PL0) course, which covers UK elections and government, ideologies (nationalism is the optional subject), and also International Relations in Paper 3, although these choices could vary depending on teacher preference. In Sociology, pupils study the AQA Sociology (7192) course, which includes modules on Education and methods in context in Year 12 and Crime and Deviance in Year 13.

At present, the post includes the management of debating in the School (House, ESU Mace and the London Junior Debating competitions), which would be available if the post holder has an interest in this programme.
