The post is part of the Trust's strategy to improve emergency care for children as per the SDEC standards and to strengthen the working relationship between Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine, as a new 8-bed Short stay Paediatric Unit (SSPAU) is opening .

This post is suitable for an experienced doctor interested in a career in Paediatrics or in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. The successful applicant will work entirely in the Paediatric Emergency and SSPAU Unit with a particular emphasis on improving the flow of patients through the hospital and effective decision making for patient turnover in the SSPAU.

They will work alongside the Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant team, Emergency Nurse Practitioners and other junior doctors covering this area. They will support and supervise the junior paediatric doctors as well as emergency department junior doctors working in the PED and SSPAU.

Consultant support is provided by the Lead for SSPAU, the Emergency Medicine Consultants and the Paediatric Consultant of the Week.

The post is ideal for an experienced paediatric doctor who can demonstrate that they have achieved the competences expected of a new ST4+ level paediatric trainee.

It is suitable for those interested in advancing their general paediatrics knowledge and developing their administrative skills in a teaching hospital environment in preparation for entering formal paediatric training at ST4 level. It is equally suitable for those at the end of training wishing to consolidate knowledge before applying for CCT with a supportive consultant team who encourage acting up and facilitate the appointee to further develop skills required to step up to consultant level. The post would also be ideal for an experienced Emergency Medicine doctor who has had done sub-speciality training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. The post would also be well suited to an Emergency Medicine doctor working at registrar level, wishing to further their experience in working in paediatrics. MRCEM or equivalent is desirable.
