Machine Operator - Bagging Machine - Permanent Job Role

At Job & Talent, we are recruiting a permanent Machine Operator to work with one of our clients. They are the world's leader and largest baking company and a relevant participant in snacks. The company makes bagels, which are one of the fastest-growing bakery products and sandwich carriers on UK menus.

To be successful in this role, you must have at least 6 months of food production experience.

Shift Patterns:

  • Working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern which consists of 2 x 12-hour days followed by 2 x 12-hour nights.

Pay Rates

  • First 2 weeks site induction- 11.60 per hour
  • Weeks 2-12 training - 12.32 per hour
  • Successful probation after 12 weeks 12.64 per hour

  • 1 extra for all hours worked between 18:00 - 06:00
  • Overtime x 1.25 for hours worked above contract

Job Description:

The efficient operation of the Hartmann bagger involves setting up the machine to accommodate the size and quantity of the bagels, ensuring that each bagel is properly bagged without causing any damage. You will monitor the bagging process, making adjustments to the machine settings as needed to maintain optimal performance. Regular inspections are conducted to verify the quality of the bagging, and any issues are quickly addressed through troubleshooting and minor adjustments to set up. The operator also performs routine maintenance on the machine to ensure its longevity and reliability. This role requires mechanical aptitude.

Reporting to the Packing Area Line Leader, the Bagger Operator role covers the following:

Role of a Machine Operator:

  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Operate the bagger machine and associated equipment, in such a way that ensures that all tasks are safely and correctly completed in line with company procedures, processes and relevant SOP's, especially during break relief.
  • Understand and comply with the product run plans.
  • Ensure that product is packaged correctly with the correct number of products per bag and the correct packaging with the correct shelf life and tagging.
  • Any required checks are carried out on time and any required documentation is completed in full, with appropriate actions carried out and recorded.
  • Traceability maintained.
  • Metal detection is carried out on time and any required documentation is completed in full with appropriate actions carried out and recorded.
  • Xray checks are carried out on time and any required documentation is completed in full, with appropriate actions carried out and recorded.
  • GMP and housekeeping standards are maintained, and audit is ready.
  • Reporting any packing issues that are identified to the area line leader.
  • Complete any ad hoc requests from either the Shift manager or other functional leads.

Key Requirements:

  • Manual Handling trained and in date.
  • Metal Detection Trained
  • X- ray Trained.
  • COSHH Trained.
  • Be trained against all relevant SOPs and work instructions.
  • Be allergen trained.

About You

  • Has a good standard of verbal and written English required to meet site safety rules and enable the Associate to fully understand and pass mandatory training.
  • Can routinely follow instructions.
  • Flexible to vary tasks undertaken and can complete repetitive tasks diligently and quickly.
  • Be able to demonstrate good team working and behaviours in line with the GB Beliefs.
  • Can work independently, when required.
  • Has good attendance and is punctual, arriving in work area on time.
  • Complies with break allocation, schedules, and cover.
  • Understands all the safety and food safety processes for the area in which they work and can fully explain them. Used to working in a fast paced production environment.
  • Focused on quality and able to produce products to a high standard
  • Working either independently or within a team.
  • Achieve team objectives.
  • Be consistent, accurate and ensure that procedures are followed.
