It is desirable Applicants should have experience in the areas of Safeguarding vulnerable adults, Court of Protection and Deprivation of Liberty cases.  The post holder will hold their own caseload.  The successful candidates will be part of a team and supported by a team of paralegals. Applicants must be a Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive.

Purpose of the Post:

Provision of high quality legal advice and support to the authority.

Organise and control your area of professional expertise with supervision

Support hub working by working across work areas in the wider legal team.

The post holder is responsible for the following:

Support and contribute to management policies, systems, lean and or efficient processes and structures in line with corporate policies and Departmental objectives.

Organise and deliver team objectives, performance targets and resource requirements with the Chief Legal Officer based on Departmental objectives and needs as part of the Service Planning process and assist in the implementation of the plan

To provide expert, timely and professional advice and support on all relevant matters to all stakeholders.

Continuously seek to identify opportunities for service improvement and problem resolution and contribute to the organisation of cross functional work within the Department.

To identify and implement any income or trading opportunities for the Department and ensure delivery

Represent the Chief Legal Officer at any meetings as appropriate.

Deputise for the Lead/Associate Lawyer as and when required.

To perform other duties consistent with the level of the post as agreed with the Chief Legal Officer.

To be professionally responsible for all regulatory requirements and standards and for the care and conduct of all legal matters within their caseload.

The post may include responsibility for advocacy to put the Council’s case in a variety of tribunals/courts and to provide cover for other members of the team when required. Advocacy undertaken would be occasional higher-level advocacy in Crown or County courts or regular lower-level advocacy in the Magistrates Court.

Devise and provide training to stakeholders and participate in training staff in other departments where appropriate.

To have conduct of a caseload in their area of specialism and to draft all necessary documents and develop standard documents, workflows and processes wherever possible

To participate in the performance management initiatives in relation to Appraisals and Reviews.

To assist the Chief Legal Officer in the delivery of any transformation strategy as required.
