About this opportunity:
The MCR/Transmission Support Engineer role encompasses responsibilities for all of our MCR's daily operational commitments, which includes significant amounts of live programming. The role also provides first line technical support to the broadcast infrastructure to ensure that services provided to customers are continuously available and performing to Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance levels. The role is one of the key customer facing roles within the department and therefore the Engineer must not only possess excellent technical skills, but must have strong customer facing and communication skills.
This is a 12 month FTC position which is shift based including weekends and public holidays may be required with changing business needs.
What you will do:
- Responsible for ensuring technical delivery and acceptable quality for incoming and outgoing video and audio quality and levels.
- Liaise with 3rd Parties over contribution issues and live/amended deliveries, ensuring agreed media delivery format is adhered to and distribution for all platforms.
- Line up and prepare outside sources for transmission and record feeds.
- Set up communication 4 wire circuits via ISDN to enable Playout queuing.
- Manage satellite down linking using local satellite receivers and steerable dishes. EBU Membership.
- Route inbound and outbound lines to destinations as required by the lines' schedule.
- Collaborate closely with Playout to confirm talkback and OB contributions, and urgent Playout issues.
- Carry out routine checks of systems to ensure functionality, deal with issues or raise with 2nd line engineering team as appropriate.
- Identify potential system failures and weaknesses and proactively advise management and maintain comprehensive records and logs of work done using the departmental service management tools.
You will bring:
- Experience of a large, structured, broadcast and MCR environment.
- Understanding of Audio / video equipment for signal analyses
- Understanding of the different audio and video formats (HD/SD, Stereo, Dolby)
- Previous experience or keen interest in the broadcasting industry
