The Senior Health and Safety advisor will assist the Head of Health, Safety and Environment and Management teams to support the business in their undertaking, and advise them with practical advice on the measures which need to be undertaken to comply with the requirements and prohibitions imposed upon them under any relevant statutory provisions laid down for the health & safety of employees, contractors, members of the public or any other persons who may be affected by the business's acts or omissions.

Role and responsibilities
  • Agree with the Head of Health, Safety and Environment annual personal objectives and targets for continual improvement in relation to health and safety which help meet the business strategies and objectives.
  • Deputise for the Head of Health & Safety at all meetings where required.
  • Aid managers absorb new legislation / guidance and standards into normal working practice where required.
  • Review policies and procedures in relation to health & safety to ensure they are relevant and are properly implemented.
  • Aid departmental managers in carrying out root cause accident / incident investigations where required.
  • Provide support to departments and project teams in matters relating to health and safety and the environment. Where necessary become a member of a project core team as the health and safety team member.
  • Management of the internal and external safety data sheet system.
  • Management of contractor management system on site.
  • Where necessary lead or participate in the process hazard analysis programme.
  • Aid departmental managers in reviewing departmental risk assessments including hazards relating to compliance.
  • Advise on a range of specialist health and safety areas within the advisor's competency.
  • Carry out internal compliance audits in matters relating to health & Safety and aid in delivery of practical solutions.
  • Work with the business to identify external audits in areas of high risk
  • Monitor, evaluate and review Health and Safety policy, plans and practice, make recommendations and implement new policies and procedures as required.
  • Any further reasonable duties which provide support to management in achieving the overall business goals safely
What you'll bring
  • NEBOSH Diploma (equivalent) or working towards
  • Chartered Member of Institute of Occupational Health and Safety, or working towards
  • Proven understanding of onsite work in Pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, food, research, or any relevant industry

  • Highly collaborative with team members, manager and business/functional partners to ensure shared information, alignment, and proactive awareness of risks or issues.

  • Passionate about and able to inspire excitement in the Compliance Program, and drive cultural change.
  • Demonstrated commitment to self-learning and improvement and a commitment to pass experience and learnings onto others.
  • Proven expertise in identifying and applying change management methodologies and tools to successfully deliver and embed changes in the business, understanding barriers to success and advising on how to navigate and manage them.
Additional information
  • The role does not necessarily need a deep understanding of the technical aspects of the pharmaceuticals business. It is more important to leverage the existing expertise and accomplish this with a clear economical focus.
  • It is desirable that the candidate is able to support the building of a future strategy for the entire technical operations area
