Pontypridd Rhondda Cynon Taf, United Kingdom NHS Wales - Cwm Taf University Health Board Full time

Do you have what it takes to lead and influence strategic initiatives that drive positive change in healthcare?

As the Deputy Director for People in Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the workforce strategies that drive our organisation forward.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director for People, you'll lead across the full people directorate portfolio and influence initiatives to optimise employee relations, organisational development, and workforce planning. This senior leadership position is ideal for a strategic thinker with a passion for driving positive change in healthcare.

You will be leading a team of talented and passionate professionals and having the ownership of the whole portfolio will mean that you are able to be strategic in your approach. You will be connecting Workforce Planning, Wellbeing, People Services and Organisational Development to work towards one common goal.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Are you passionate about optimising employee relations, organisational development, and workforce planning in a dynamic healthcare environment?

Some of the main duties involved in this role include:

Providing strategic leadership and support to the Executive Director for People in shaping workforce strategies for part of the largest employer in Wales.

Having full oversight of the full People Directorate

Overseeing employee relations matters, including complex cases and negotiations with trade unions.

Leading organisational development initiatives to promote a culture of excellence and innovation.

Driving workforce planning efforts to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and service needs.

Collaborating with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to implement effective HR policies and practices.

Managing resources and budgets within the People Directorate to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.

Represent the Health Board in national discussions, negotiations, and policy formation related to HR matters.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Do you have what it takes to inspire and motivate the people teams to achieve excellence in service delivery?

Although having experience within the NHS is not essential to apply for this role, it would be highly advantageous to have an understanding of healthcare and/or working within a large complex environment. (Our health board has close to 14,000 staff)

We are seeking an individual who possesses a thorough understanding of how government strategies impact at the local level and a comprehensive understanding of the role and purpose of our organisation.

Expertise in change management, workforce and organisational development, and in-depth professional knowledge are essential, as well expertise in employment legislation. FCIPD membership and masters degree in a relevant discipline are desirable.

We would require an individual with specialist knowledge and experience of undertaking complex negotiations and highly effective influencing skills. In addition, the ability to contribute to the strategic thinking and direction of the organisation. Therefore the successful candidate must have considerable experience at a managerial level within HR.

Significant experience of operating at senior management level including preparation/presentation of papers for Board will be required, as well as significant experience and understanding of Organisational Development and Human Resources practices.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, although not essential for this role.  All applicants are invited to apply in Welsh or English, and no preference will be given to applications submitted in either language.

We provide healthcare services to people living in Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf county borough areas, serving a population of around 450,000.  We are ideally situated between Wales’s capital city, Porthcawl to the west, and the stunning scenery in the Brecon Beacons.

Our vision is to care for our communities and patients by preventing ill-health, promoting better health, providing excellent services and reducing the need for inpatient care wherever possible through the provision of strengthened home, primary and community care.

We value the diversity of our staff and welcome applications from people from protected groups under the Equality Act 2010, this specifically includes age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/reassignment, race/nationality, religion/belief, disability, pregnancy and maternity and marriage and civil partnership.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg is a Living Wage Employer.
