Production Manager needed in Inverness

My client is a large industrial manufacturer looking for an experienced Production Manager based on site in the Inverness area.
As part of the Management Team, the Production Manager will be responsible for the co-ordination and control of production activities on site, providing leadership and support to the production teams and managing individual staff performance. You will be responsible for 26 operational staff indirectly and 4 direct shift managers on site.

The main focus will be the delivery of the productivity target, whilst initiating continuous improvement in the following areas: quality, plant functionality, value for money from suppliers and contractors, health, safety and environmental performance and team work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES OF THE POSITION

1. Health and Safety
• To set a positive example in all areas of compliance.
• To promote health and safety awareness of the companies' employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all the companies' polices and guidelines and ensure appropriate risk assessments and working systems are in place.
• Effective planning and internal coordination for maintenance outages, to improve safety and to maximise efficiency.

2. Reliability and consistency of operation
• Responsible for the performance and efficiency of the Production Operations
• Ensure production targets are met in line with budget commitments.
• Establish an internal benchmarking system to compare site performance and to promote best practice between sites.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the production facility through the submission of capital projects.
• Plan and effectively execute annual maintenance shutdown to ensure safety, quality/completion of work and cost management.
• To contribute to the ongoing development of a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) System for the site
• Use a variety of techniques to maximise availability of all equipment, improve equipment efficiencies and reduce costs.
• Implement and use effective measures to facilitate a continuous improvement culture

3. General and administrative
• To foster good relations and promote a good team working culture in all areas of the business.
• Lead the Production team on Health and Safety performance and compliance.
• Communicate effectively with local management team and site personnel.
• Ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Meet all assigned goals and assist others in accomplishing their goals

4. Production Operations
• Liaise with the management teams to ensure the most effective use of resources to deliver agreed budgeted production.
• Develop, manage and maintain an automated workflow system for the manufacturing operations.
• Schedule, plan and conduct regular review meetings.
• Oversee staff scheduling, time off requests and overtime.
• Ensure all staff have the resources and information to perform their function.
• Ensure the completion of all duties with a minimum of waste and abuse of equipment.
• Ensure employee safety training is conducted as required by company policy and statutory regulations.

5. Production Personnel
• Provide a positive, motivating example for employees.
• Ensure the development and continual improvement of the production plant.
• Conduct formal performance reviews as per company policy.
• Participate in the recruitment and selection process as and when required.
• Manage absenteeism, including conducting Return-to-Work interviews and referrals to Occupational Health.
• Participation in the disciplinary and grievance processes.
• Advise the Human Resources Manager of any relevant HR issues on a timely basis.

KEY SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline OR relevant Production Mgt. experience
• Analytical capacity to identify and address technical issues/opportunities which can impact upon production and quality
• An understanding of Total Quality Management
• Foster a continuous improvement approach, benchmarking internally and externally to track progress
• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
• Experience of planned preventative maintenance systems.
• Superior communications skills at all levels.
