The role

The role is responsible for the effective management of one or more projects within a change programme, as approved by the business. 

Broadly skilled in information and communications technology. 

Excellent people skills, ability to bring people on the project journey and foster an excellent team environment across both the project team and wider stakeholders.

DLA Piper are currently on a journey to transition from more traditional waterfall methods of project delivery to agile delivery, so the incumbent will need to be able to navigate both waterfall and agile delivery.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads projects from inception through to deployment  Builds and develops the project team to ensure maximum performance, by providing purpose, direction, and motivation Establishes and maintains relationships with relevant stakeholders, providing regular contact on project status and changes Identifies barriers and impediments to progress and offers suggestions on how to address them Drives decision making, ensuring decisions are timely and recorded to ensure progress and accountability Adherence to the organisation’s delivery frameworks (Waterfall and Agile) Uses experience and influence to support the adoption and/or optimisation of agile ways of working by instilling knowledge, and developing processes and practices within teams, and constructively challenging traditional ways of working/attitudes/behaviours, as required Be transparent, open, and honest about delivery status, making visible risks, issues, and dependencies, planning for mitigation and escalating where necessary Foster a safe and inclusive environment for all team members where everyone can have a voice, be engaged, contribute, learn, and constructively challenge Facilitate and ensure the team has agreed ways of working that are understood, visible, and open to challenge, improvement, and evolution. Guide and coach the team through a process of continuous improvement to optimise their workflow and process for flow and effectiveness Actively work with, and coach the team, to break down silos, share knowledge, and enable and develop the required skills to solve shared problems and work as an empowered, cross-functional team Champion an outcome-focused approach and support the team to understand and measure how deliverables align with business and team goals, values, and objectives

ABOUT YOU

Five or more years of project management experience Professional certification such as PRINCE2, Agile Project Management Able to handle multiple priorities, in a fast-paced and challenging environment Able to build trust and rapport to develop effective relationships, internally and externally Leadership – ability to drive engagement, growth, and development of the team through creating a culture of psychological safety and enabling the ambition of autonomy and empowerment of the team through providing context, and increasing capability and ownership Coaching – ability to help and encourage individuals and teams to improve performance  Stakeholder Management – establishing relationships, analysing perspectives, and managing stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Adapting stakeholder engagement style to meet the needs of different audiences.  Team Dynamics – knowledge and understanding of the psychological and environmental forces that influence the direction of team behaviour and performance, and the tools and techniques to improve team cohesion and performance. Communication – advocate open and transparent communications and actions within the team and beyond, through honesty about failure and celebration of success Problem Solving – must not be defeated by problems and thrive on solving them Risk Management – identification, assessment, and management of risks, which could result in failure to deliver products which are of value
