Senior Undergraduate Admissions Coordinator

Sussex, United Kingdom University of Sussex Full time

Hours: Full time (36.5 hours per week).

Staff are able to work remotely up to 50% of their hours.

Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need).

The work of the Admissions team is applicant-facing and office opening hours are 9am to 5pm.

Applications must be received by midnight of the closing date.

Expected Interview date: w/c 17th June 2024

Expected start date: To be confirmed

About the role

The Admissions Office is looking to appoint a Senior Undergraduate Admissions Coordinator to support the undergraduate admissions operation at the University.

Working as part of the centralised Admission Office, you will assist with the smooth, professional, and efficient running of the University’s admissions operation. As an experienced admissions professional, you will handle more complex cases and admissions matters, as well as developing specialisms in specific admissions functions. You will also deputise for the Admissions Managers in their absence.

You will assist with telephone, email and in-person enquiries, and with the on-going communication with applicants and academic Schools as the admissions cycle progresses through to registration.

While this position does not entail any line managerial responsibilities, you will provide advice and guidance to less experienced Undergraduate Admissions Coordinators, as well as taking on training and development responsibilities where appropriate.

You will support Admissions Managers by assisting in key admissions functions such as fee status assessment and complex qualification reviews.

Throughout the summer, you will play an integral role in the confirmation and clearing period, reviewing applicant results and taking decisions on those we can admit to the University. This will include working one day at the weekend in August when the A-level results are received, working longer hours during the week of A level publication and potentially the Saturday following A level publication.

About you

Previous Admissions experience is essential, as you will be expected to hit the ground running once you join the team. You will need to be friendly, organised, hard-working and possess excellent attention to detail.

The Undergraduate Admissions Team work together closely throughout the admissions cycle, so you will have demonstrable team working skills while also possessing the ability to work independently and take initiative, when required.

You will have strong research and critical thinking skills, utilising these to make decisions on complex applications that fall outside of agreed admissions templates.

Please contact Matt Bridge, Undergraduate Admissions Office (M.Bridge@sussex.ac.uk) for informal enquiries

The University of Sussex values the diversity of its staff and students, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
