Band 7/8a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Emergency Medicine

Birmingham, United Kingdom NHS (National Health Service) Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and dynamic individual with an appropriate level of knowledge and skills to join the Pharmacy team, leading on acute medicine on the UHB Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. The post holder will also work closely with the other Lead Pharmacists and the pharmacy operational team on site to ensure day to day provision of the clinical pharmacy service to general wards.

The post holder will deliver a high quality specialist clinical pharmacy service to selected directorates and will be responsible for the day to day delivery of clinical pharmacy services to specific clinical areas utilising your skills and knowledge.

There will be a strong emphasis on supporting you in developing clinical leadership and mentoring skills to the next level. With the support of the Advanced Pharmacist, you will complete core directorate activities such as reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management activities, as well as taking on enhanced roles relating to education and training, such as developing training programs and supervising/tutoring less experienced members of the team including pre-registration pharmacists.

Main duties of the job

You will form part of the Pharmacy team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site which is integrated with other Pharmacy services around the Trust, and will also work as part of our broader clinical pharmacy team, contributing to local and national initiatives to develop and enhance services.

As part of the team you will work cross-site with the other lead pharmacists in the team, which will include spending time on sites other than your base site.

The Trust has close links with local universities and you will be involved with supporting the undergraduate pharmacy teaching. You will also contribute to the delivery of formal and informal education and development programmes, including the Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, and our rotational programme for band 6 and 7 clinical pharmacists.

As part of this job, you will be expected to work as part of a wider team, but also independently and must possess effective influencing and negotiating skills.

Ideally, you will hold or be willing to work towards a NMP qualification. Significant experience of working in a hospital pharmacy is essential and clinical experience in critical care is desirable.
