Kitchen Assistant

Purpose of the Post:
To function as part of a team to support the preparation, basic cooking and serving of food to a high standard when the cook is off and to ensure that the service is clean and presentable throughout.
To work with the management team to provide good systems of infection control and COSHH management.
The post holder is responsible for the following
To receive advice, guidance, and assistance from the Management team.
To work with the catering team & domestic colleagues to undertake duties with service users while ensuring that Value Base
Principles/Person Centre Ethics are practised.
As part of the domestic role, you will undertake duties with resident’s/service users ensuring the base values of privacy and dignity are paramount at all times.
To complete any written records as required by the Authority.
To work to Health & Safety Principles.
To highlight to the Officer in Charge any shortfall in service provision and suggestions as to overcome them.
Expected to deal with sensitive/emotive issues, challenging behaviour and difficult situations.
Following training staff will be expected to undertake the full range of duties which may include the manual handling of bulky materials using manual handling equipment and fire safety evacuation aides should an emergency occur.
The operation of powered equipment in the role of domestic/kitchen assistant, which may include the use of the laundry.
To comply with fire regulations at all times.
To remain professional within role and focus on service improvement.
To work within budgetary restraints.
To work as part of the catering team in ensuring directives are followed as set by the Cook/Managers.
To follow COSHH regulations when completing domestic duties Must have attained Food Hygiene Certificates relating to role, or gain these as soon as in post
Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance Systems within the catering/domestic field.
Must be vigilant in ensuring health & safety is followed with regards to role specifics.
To work to Departments Policies/Procedures.
To work to Health & safety Policies/Procedures including HACCP and COSHH.
Basic preparation of food while supporting service users/guests which may include vulnerable users.
To work within CIW Standards.
To undertake any other duties commensurate with the scale and grading of the post and to work to the designated rota however, also expecting to cover extra shifts relating leave and sickness.
Experience of operating powered domestic equipment.
May be required to provide assistance at times of major incidents and local emergencies in accordance with the emergency plan.

The post is predominantly concerning the domestic role.
Secondary part of the role is to support the cook in maintaining the smooth running of the kitchen in supporting basic preparation of food when required and clearing away after service is complete.
The domestic/Kitchen assistant will clean designated areas and ensure that they are kept in a hygienic condition.
In both roles you may need regard of a variety of hazards, i.e., from tools and equipment which need to be used carefully.
Will work with clients and client groups, this may include vulnerable users.
You may be expected to transfer one area to another within Swansea. There is no entitlement to any transfer.
