Oxford, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Data Manager with a passion for informatics and data management, to help identify the underlying mechanisms and translate knowledge into the development of new, precision therapeutics. Based at the Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, you will join the Oxford-GSK Institute of Molecular & Computational Medicine, who aim to improve tools in, and knowledge from, genetics, genomics, molecular and single cell biology, spatial imaging, machine learning and novel methods of data handling to study the pattern of diseases in new ways.

You will be responsible for the flow of sample information, multi-modal datasets and their metadata within IMCM, acting as the point of contact for all matters related to data management. You will assist in defining and planning new projects which contribute to the overall aims of the IMCM and in particular data management, and you will develop and use novel methodologies for storing these information and datasets along with their metadata in an unambiguous manner which supports hypothesis generation. Other duties will include ensuring that datasets are appropriately annotated and made available in a manner which is FAIR compliant (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) wherever possible, and identifying and troubleshooting technical or scientific problems, working collaboratively with IMCM members to overcome issues.

It is essential that you hold a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biochemistry or another related computational subject.  You will have significant experience in managing large and diverse data types in a biomedical space, and significant proficiency in coding in either Python or R and other scripting languages. You will have excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a proven ability to solve problems and think critically about scientific processes so as to generate robust, reproducible approaches. It is essential you are able to drive projects to completion, working independently, and organising and prioritising work to deliver accurate results to the required standard and to an agreed schedule. A working knowledge of biology and experience in computational biology in an immunological context would be highly desirable.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
