Role Overview:

This college is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Mechanical Engineering Assessor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the progress and performance of apprentices up to Level 3 standards in Mechanical Engineering. The role involves visiting various employer sites to support and assess apprentices, ensuring they meet the requirements of their apprenticeship frameworks and standards.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Conduct regular assessments of apprentices in the workplace, evaluating their skills and knowledge in line with Level 3 Mechanical Engineering standards.
    • Provide constructive feedback to apprentices and employers to enhance learning and development.
    • Ensure that all assessments are carried out in compliance with the college and awarding body standards.
  • Support and Guidance:

    • Offer guidance and support to apprentices, helping them to understand and meet the requirements of their apprenticeship program.
    • Develop individualized learning plans to address any skills gaps and track apprentice progress.
    • Assist apprentices in preparing for their End Point Assessment (EPA).
  • Employer Engagement:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers to facilitate effective apprenticeships.
    • Liaise with employers to ensure that apprentices are gaining relevant and valuable experience in their roles.
    • Promote the benefits of apprenticeships to potential new employer partners.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, feedback, and apprentice progress.
    • Prepare and submit reports as required by college policies and external bodies.
  • Quality Assurance:

    • Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of assessment.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the apprenticeship program.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Essential:

    • Qualified to assess in Further Education (FE) with a minimum of an A1 Assessor Award (or equivalent, such as CAVA or TAQA).
    • Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualifications and industry experience.
    • Strong knowledge of Level 3 Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship standards.
  • Desirable:

    • Teaching qualification such as a PGCE or Cert Ed.
    • Experience in a similar assessor role within the education sector.
    • Familiarity with End Point Assessment processes.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with apprentices and employers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
