As a part of the Architecture Team within Technology and Development in the CTO, the Solutions Architecture team collaborates closely with Enterprise, Technical, Data, and Security Architecture teams. They liaise with Business and IT colleagues in Santander UK and Global Architecture, focusing on the functional architecture of applications and their interactions within Santander's Architecture Landscape, sharing reusable patterns and solutions across domains.

The Opportunity:

If you are keen to shape the design of future Santander UK systems, this role in Solutions Architecture could be ideal for you. As a Senior Solution Architect, you will produce end-to-end solution architectures for multiple projects within functional domains. You will review designs produced by Engineering teams, ensuring alignment with Santander UK's strategies and collaborating with the engineering community to deliver solutions primarily in an agile manner.

The difference you will make:

  • Balance business requirements with functional and technical strategy to ensure sustainable solutions within the functional domain.
  • Oversee a team of Solution Architects, supporting the Solution Architecture community.
  • Work with Enterprise and Solution Architects to understand roadmaps, strategies, and solutions across domains.


What you will bring:

  • Experience leading design and architecture within a regulatory business domain, preferably within financial institutions (Retail or Corporate).
  • Proven architecture experience (depth and breadth)
  • Functional Domain Knowledge:
    • Financial Control and Risk Models (Front Office Controls, Regulatory, Trading Execution, Settlements, Trade Processing, Procurement, Trading Analytics, Risk Management, Treasury Finance, Hedge Accounting, Capital Risk models, Regulatory Reporting, Accounting).
    • We are also interested in experience within Credit Risk (Decisioning, Monitoring, Bureau Services, Risk MI, Integrations) and/or experience in Central Services (HR, Legal, Procurement, Audit, Business Support).
  • Familiarity with BIAN framework, TOGAF, ArchiMate, API & microservice architecture solutions, and tools like Avolution Abacus.
  • Experience in defining and maintaining strategic roadmaps, ensuring alignment with stakeholders across technologies and business areas locally and globally.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud architectures.
  • Passionate about driving change, creating practical architectures aligned with IT principles, and following appropriate governance.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex concepts, influence senior stakeholders, and collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Effective in a team setting, managing, and mentoring junior Solution Architects, contributing to collective targets, and ensuring compliance with best practices and architectural standards.
  • Experienced in reviewing and enhancing the quality/maturity of architecture produced by the team, ensuring adherence to standards and principles.
  • Be flexible and have a can do' attitude with a strong sense of initiative with the ability to learn fast - new concepts and skills - and deal calmly with situations under pressure

What else you need to know:

  • Preferred location is Milton Keynes, with an expectation of at least 3 days in the office each week.
  • Opportunities for progression include moving to S5 roles within CTO domain becoming an Enterprise Architect or applying for senior positions in any of Santander's 22+ countries. Santander is undergoing significant transformation, providing a chance to contribute to and lead substantial change.

As well as a competitive salary, you'll enjoy a benefits package that you can tailor to your needs.

  • Eligible for a discretionary performance-related annual bonus.
  • We put 8% of salary into your pension, even if you don't contribute yourself. We'll pay in up to 12.5% of salary, if you contribute as well, and you can take some of our contribution in cash if you prefer.
  • 30 days' holiday plus bank holidays, which increases to 31 days after five years' service, with the option to purchase up to five contractual days per year.
  • £6,000 car allowance per year.
