TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS

The Role:

• The school is looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic individual as a teacher of Mathematics.

• All teachers at Balshaw’s have additional planning time above the 10% PPA that is part of the STPCD.

• You would be working in a department that is staffed entirely by Maths specialists.

• If you are an ECT, in addition to our ECT coordinator, our ECT mentor is a member of the Maths department so you would receive our ECT support programme from a subject specialist.

Possible Additional Responsibility:

If a candidate has got a track record of excellent outcomes at GCSE for their students, there is the possibility that the school would consider providing an additional TLR for further responsibility. For an established outstanding teacher of Maths, the position of Lead Practitioner could be considered.

The Mathematics Department

As mentioned above, the Maths department is staffed entirely by Maths specialists. The department are able to make innovative use of technology in their lessons as all students at Balshaw’s have their own laptop. This provides access to numerous Maths resources that support the implementation of the Maths curriculum including Century Tech, Learning by Questions, Maths Pad and Dr Frost Maths.

Students are taught in mixed prior attainment groups at KS3 with ambition to achieve success for all. Groups are changed at KS4 to align more closely with prior attainment and current performance. There is a Maths Circle for high prior attaining Year 7 students that meet after school for an hour each week to explore problems provided by LUSoM. The Maths department plan and organise regular trips and are currently planning a trip to the Harry Potter Studios as well as previous trips to PGL and Disneyland Paris.

The department have established links with FE providers such as LUSoM, The University of Lancaster and Runshaw College. Teams have proudly represented Balshaw’s through their successful participation in competitions hosted by these providers
