London, United Kingdom Arden University Full time
Lecturer - Computing (Dissertations)£41,600 - £45,848 per annum (+ £4,000 London Weighting for London Locations) + excellent benefitsx2 opportunities available
  • x1 opportunity in Manchester
  • x1 opportunity in London
Permanent, Full TimeClick here for the full job description

The Opportunity:

Arden University is growing and as part of that growth we are expanding the Computing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join at a time when we are creating programmes to meet the needs of employers and the graduates of the future.

Our students value our flexible delivery: we run our programmes in daytime and evening modes that fit around their busy lives. We have also launched our programmes at international partner institutions. Youâll join a team of academics distributed across our UK and international study centres but working collectively to create the best experience for our students.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Teaching and training activities that support our dissertations and projects (both face to face and online).
  • Dissertation and final year project module support, ensuring levels of consistency and quality and developing our learning materials and schemes of work.
  • Assessment marking and development, developing authentic assessments, ensuring appropriate marking guidance is provided and maintaining levels of quality in terms of feedback and evaluation processes.
  • Support the development of industry projects.
  • Assisting with the development of new programmes and the review and refresh of our existing programmes, ensuring alignment with employer requirements and the employability needs of our students.
  • Working with colleagues to advise and support students undertaking project modules in line with University ethical policies.
  • Supporting student induction activities.
  • Innovate in terms of teaching practice, support, and assessment.

About You:

You will be an excellent communicator who can explain Computing concepts to a variety of audiences and inspire our students as they engage with our courses and modules. Our undergraduate and postgraduate Computing programmes cover topics such as Programming, Databases, Data Analysis, IT Security, Cloud Infrastructure, IT Project Management, Systems Analysis and Ethics in IT. As such, you will need to demonstrate an ability to support students undertaking a variety of projects. Ideally, you will have developed project management skills in an industry context and can bring this experience to the classroom so that our students can engage in learning that is authentic and work focused.

You will be confident in using a variety of techniques that align with Ardenâs focus on active learning, in both face-to-face teaching at our study centres and online teaching platforms such as Zoom. Working with the Programme Leader for Projects, you will ensure that project modules are delivered consistently and to our University standards. You will also be comfortable supervising final year and Masters projects, supporting students applying their academic and technical skills to solve real world problems.

Why Arden:

At Arden, you will become a part of a passionate and dedicated team who are committed to removing unnecessary barriers to learning and making education more accessible. Our people work hard to ensure our students journeys are the best they can possibly be, as such we want to reward our people with fantastic benefits. Employees benefit from:

  • 30 days holiday, add the bank holiday on top, and we even throw in Christmas closure
  • A generous Aviva pension plan, our contributions start at 7%
  • PMI or Healthcare Cashback (dependent on role grade)
  • Study any Arden course for free, with generous discount for all family and friends
  • Our âGolden Ticketâ which allows you to gift anyone in your life a free Arden education
  • Plus, other competitive benefits

Ardenâs values:

Stand out, Progressive, Accessible, Resourceful, Kindness, reflect who we are as an institution, a team and as individuals. If they also reflect you and you are excited by the chance to be the driving, creative force within a growing business, we want to hear from you.

There has never been a more exciting time to join Arden University, as we expand into new disciplines and locations.

Closing Date:
Monday 02 September 2024

We reserve the right to close this vacancy before the specified closing date should we receive sufficient applications or in order to respond to business needs. In order to avoid missing an opportunity to apply please submit your application as early as possible.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we recognise, and studies confirm, that often underrepresented candidates in the work place are less likely to apply to roles unless they meet all skills and experience of the position.

At Arden we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, therefore we make sure that our recruitment and selection processes never discriminate based upon age, race, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, or pregnancy, and actively welcome applications from all groups.

So, if you want to be part of Arden and our journey, but you feel that youâre missing some of the skills or experience the role requires, then we encourage you to apply anyway as you may make a great candidate for this role or others
