We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced multi-skilled (Mechanical & Electrical) technician/engineer to join our team and be part of our innovative journey working within the ever changing water industry.

This role is essential in ensuring that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently.

Using proactive and reactive maintenance methods, you will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
You will also be working in a multi-discipline team and will be responsible for carrying- out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work to minimise plant breakdowns.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical and Electrical Technician
  • Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs.
  • This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  • Provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Participate in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.
Base Location - Crossness – Abbey Wood, Southeast London - SE2 9AQ.

38 hours per week Monday-Friday.7:30 am -3:36pm plus the inclusion onto a standby rota (after training) for which you will receive additional payment.

All PPE, Tools plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
  • Ideally you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual skilled status.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
  • The work will require physical fitness; as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • A valid driving licence is essential.
