Job Purpose

 

You will lead a performance focused team to ensure the planning, investment, operation and maintenance of all assets within the Merseyside hub area. Ensuring that we deliver on our key operational performance metrics and outcome delivery incentives including: supply interruptions, mains repairs, taste, smell and appearance, leakage and low pressure all delivered in a safe, efficient and customer focused way whilst balancing the challenging financial targets.

 

You will be directly accountable for operational performance in the Merseyside area, direct line management of 4 L4 team managers with overall organisational responsibility of 120 internal staff and an operational budget of circa £17m p.a

 

Job Accountabilities

 

You will be responsible for the improvement of the health, safety and wellbeing of all colleagues involved in the service delivery and will proactively manage the impact of our works to all those affected by them. You will ensure we embed a healthy and safe working environment and culture that covers all aspects of operational performance to protect and minimise the risk to our staff, customers and operational assets. You will also be responsible for:

 
  • The water network delivery in South Manchester including customer experience and regulator performance. Through 4 discrete focused teams deliver against clear performance targets for Networks, Customer, Leakage with a Regional South Performance Team.                
  • Network Team focused on the smooth day to day optimisation and operation of the water network and associated assets managing risk effectively.                
  • Customer Team focused on responding to and resolving customer issues related to the water network.                
  • Leakage Team focused on all activities required to achieve our leakage targets.                
  • Operating the area as a business, balancing operational risk, customer and regulatory demands against our financial challenges.                
  • Leading and inspiring the South Manchester hub to embed our business cultures and values and to deliver the UU vision                
  • Leading by example and create a positive culture through open and honest communication and engagement                
  • Working closely and collaboratively with our NMS Partners and Capital Partners to deliver the right solution for our customer and our network assets                
  • Driving overall performance within the South Manchester hub always looking to achieve continuous improvement                
  • Ensuring all our service delivery activities and operational assets are managed as "good neighbours" for local communities and customers ensuring that our reputation is enhanced.                
  • Embracing and supporting our transformation programmes including Dynamic Network Management and Systems Thinking.
 

Knowledge and Skills

 

To be considered for this role you will be ideally educated to degree level and have substantial experience of managing an operational team together with a demonstrable track record of customer performance, financial management, resource management and business performance management. You will also have:

 
  • People management skills with the ability to build, recruit and develop high performing teams                
  • Resilience and the ability to cope with pressure and demands of an operational role                
  • Strong communication and engagement skills to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders                
  • Financial awareness and commercial understanding including those for internal costs and also for our NMS Partners.                
  • Awareness of the UU operational environment                
  • Strong knowledge of the market place, technologies, emerging innovation trends and latest developments facing the UK utilities industry.                
  • Experience in planning and managing the investment planning process to provide high levels of customer experience, quality and operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.                
  • Strong change management and change delivery experience
