An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to excellence in service delivery to join our team. All candidates should be competent in managing patients with haematological disorders, development of a speciality interest would be encouraged.The haematology service is constantly evolving and this post, in conjunction with existing and new posts, will support the development of the North Wales Haematology Service.

The Health Board employs around 1600 staff and has a budget of approx. £1.2 billion. It is responsible for the operation of three district general hospitals (Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd near Rhyl, and Wrexham Maelor Hospital) as well as 18 other acute and community hospitals, and a network of over 90 health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units. It also co-ordinates the work of 115 GP practices and NHS services provided by North Wales dentists, opticians and pharmacies.
Main duties of the job
o To provide specialist haematologist services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams.
o To develop a site specialist and research interest on both hospital sites. This will include developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate national and international studies.
o To provide a weekly ward round for inpatient cover.
o To work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and to provide seamless haematologist care for all patients.
o To work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient's journey.
o To liaise with colleagues in Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for haematology patients.
o To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence based medicine.
o To participate in audit and teaching.
o To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
