Engineering Manager in Flights

The Engineering Manager within the Flights business primarily manages, coaches and develops an engineering team, ensuring the development of both (the individual and team as a whole) are in line with organisational objectives and direction. You will be responsible for timely delivery of new features and with good quality. In addition to this, you will confer with leaders, and key stakeholders and determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, scalability and time-to-market for new and existing products.The ideal candidate is strong technically and has people management experience.

  • Inspire, motivate and directly manage engineers in multiple teams and in various roles;
  • Solve business problems, work cross-functionally and lead initiatives to improve our development process and business opportunities within Booking.com,
  • Take initiative to address the larger technical needs of the product you work on and always keep the customer at the center of everything you do,
  • Contribute to the growth of Booking.com through recruitment efforts and proactively share your knowledge to help your colleagues grow,
  • Represent Booking.com values, both within the company and in the external community,

Technology, Craft & Delivery

  • Technical Incident Management;
  • Combine hands on coding with working on impactful project(s) and supporting other team members;
  • Creating development, deployment, and integration plans;
  • Continuous Quality and Process Improvement;
  • Creating a culture of ownership and technical excellence;
  • Manage technical stakeholders in integrating solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of best practices across the department
  • Ability to get into the technical detail (where required) to coach, support and mentor the team
  • Delivery of the wider engineering strategic objectives

Architecture & Product Strategy

  • Thought partner for Product to define, shape and deliver the roadmap;
  • Build new products, processes and operational plans
  • Negotiate on the strategic importance of own product roadmap features
  • Architectural Ownership and Guidance;

Drive innovation in their own team.B.Skilled

  • Significant experience in software development
  • Experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Experience in flights industry is a plus.
  • Experience with Java is a must
  • Experience with Kafka, Cassandra and/ or MySQL is a plus
  • Deep experience with unit, integration and end-to-end testing paradigms.
  • Experience in defining and upholding SLOs/KPIs and conducting architecture reviews for systems.
  • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of developing and shipping software
  • Good technical background in handling big scale projects
  • Strong technical skills (Coding & System design) with ability to get hands-on with your team if needed
  • Strong people management skills and experience in dealing with complex people issues
  • Excellent communicator with strong stakeholder management experience, good commercial awareness and technical vision
  • Strong project management skills
  • You are a humble and thoughtful technology leader, you lead by example and gain your teammatesâ respect through actions, not the title
  • Experience in flights industry is a plus.
