The Ideal Candidate:

The Youth Justice Custody Officer is a new and innovative adaption of the Prison Custody Officer role. Specific to working within youth custody and will be a driving force for changing the way in which children and young people are cared for in custody.

As a Youth Justice Custody Officer, you will support children and young people, setting boundaries and creating a safe, decent and secure environment. You will take responsibility for the personal, social and emotional development of children and young people, whilst building constructive and motivational relationships that bring about positive change.

Working with children and young people is challenging, you need to have the patience and resilience to form a trusting relationship with a child or young person.  We are looking for people who have a special talent in helping children and young people, who can listen and see the potential in the people in our care.

You will have a proven aptitude for working with children and young people in a supportive, educational or similar role and have the desire to see them build a better future for themselves.

You will initially join us and train as a Prison Custody Officer and then once in post, will undertake specialist training to ensure you are equipped to work with children and young people. On completion of the probationary period, successful candidates will have the opportunity to study for a Level 4 qualification in Youth Justice. If you successfully complete the programme, you will qualify and progress as a Youth Justice Custody Officer and receive a financial allowance for doing so.

Desirable Skills:

Good IT skills including Google sheets, ASSet Plus etc.Ability to manage/understand effective use of resources.Welsh Speaking

Your initial training lasts for 8 weeks, where you will receive comprehensive training, which includes Control & Restraint, First Aid, Interpersonal skills and Health & Safety.
