An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated senior trainees (ST4 or above) with an interest in leadership, management and quality improvement to join Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Chief Registrar. This fixed term ST4+ post will be available from August 2024 for a period of 12 months and is available in General Medical specialities (including Acute, Respiratory, Cardiology, Diabetes, Elderly Care, Rheumatology or Gastroenterology),

The Chief Registrar role provides trainees with 50% protected time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management and quality improvement. Learning that Chief Registrars gain from the Royal College of Physicians' (RCP's) bespoke development programme will be put into practice in a supportive environment enabling autonomy and flexibility to develop and support projects that address key local challenges and priorities. These may include service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce and sustainability.

The Chief Registrar will be mentored by a senior clinical leader within the organisation and gain a unique insight into NHS leadership and management, as well as deeper knowledge of NHS structures and stakeholders.

The RCP development programme will be funded by the trust.

Interviews will be held on the 24th May 2024.

Main duties of the job

The Chief Registrar job description is broad in scope in order to allow chief registrars and recruiting organisations to have autonomy and flexibility over the work the chief registrar undertakes. Chief Registrars should focus on addressing key local challenges and priorities, which may include some or all of the following:

o Develop and implement strategies to improve the quality of patient care and enhance the performance of the Trust.

o Lead and manage projects aimed at improving patient outcomes, service delivery, and efficiency

o Support the development and delivery of education and training programmes for medical students, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals.

o Work closely with clinical teams to ensure effective clinical governance, risk management, and compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.

o Involvement in workforce planning and improving the deployment of trainees to meet service needs and improve morale

o Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve patient safety and reduce clinical risk.

About us

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

Full registration with General Medical Council and a Licence to Practise Should be NTN ST4 or above (can include Locally Employed Doctors at experience equivalent to ST4 or above) Should not already hold a CCT or expected to complete training during the programme Must have approval of TPD to apply (NTNs) Evidence of satisfactory / more than satisfactory progress through training, including annual review of competence progression (ARCP) outcomes or appraisal.

Experience

Evidence of clinical competencies in their specialty appropriate for their stage in training (or equivalent) An appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems Ability to prioritise clinical need Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk Ability to work without supervision where appropriate
