gtd healthcare is one of the largest NHS commissioned Primary and Urgent care providers in North West England. We are actively recruiting for Patient Safety Partners to attend some of our patient safety meetings. You willrepresent the patients/familys voice and provide a questioning approach to help develop a safer organisation.

The Patient Safety Partner is a new and innovative role in the NHS. You will be actively involved in the design of safer healthcare at all levels in the organisation, you will also play a key role in improving patient experiences by becoming an integral part of patient safety and quality governance at gtd healthcare .

The role involves sitting on relevant committees to support compliance monitoring and discussing how safety issues should be addressed by providing appropriate challenge to ensure learning and change. Membership of and attendance at the relevant meetings will mostly be held remotely via Microsoft Teams and other options are available for candidates who do not have IT access.

It is possible that the role will evolve over time and the initial term is likely to be two years in the first instance with the opportunity to extend. This role attracts an involvement payment of £150 per day, or £75 per half day, and reimbursement for reasonable expenses. The initial estimated total time commitment will be one to two days per month.

Job responsibilities

Skills and experience

  • Understanding of and broad interest in patient safety.
  • Ability to communicate well in writing and read comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate a range of information and evidence.
  • Confidence to communicate well verbally with senior leaders about strategic issues, as an advocate for patient safety.
  • Ability to provide a patient, carer, or lay perspective and to put forward views on behalf of the wider community/groups of patients (not own opinion only).
  • Experience of championing health improvements; able to be a critical friend.
  • Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders and work in partnership with the organisation.
  • Sound judgement and an ability to be objective.
  • Personal integrity and commitment to openness, inclusiveness, and high standards.

Training

The Patient Safety Partner will be required to complete mandatory training including the following:

  • Accessible Information Standard.
  • Data Security Awareness.
  • Display Screen Equipment.
  • Equality and Diversity.
  • Health and Safety.
  • Patient Safety Syllabus (Level 1) Essentials for Patient Safety.
  • Patient Safety Syllabus (Level 2) Access to practice.
  • Safeguarding.

Support will be provided by gtd to ensure mandatory training is accessible.

Planning and organising

  • Ability to plan time to prepare for meetings and undertake any other activities required as part of the role.
  • To attend Patient Safety Partner support meetings and training events.

Personal

  • Adhere to the principles of the Patient Safety Partner agreement.
  • Inform relevant person if unable to attend meetings or undertake any other identified activities.

Support to colleagues

  • Support and guide new Patient Safety Partners where required.
  • Take part in Patient Safety Partner networks to receive peer support and share learning.

Communication

  • Report any safety incidents to staff.
  • Ensure that confidentiality is always maintained.

Other duties:

  • Due to gtds commitment to safety and continuous improvement, it is likely that the role will evolve over time. These duties will be subject to review; any amendments will be made in consultation and agreement with the Patient Safety Partner.

The post holder will participate in any training activity implemented by gtd as part of this role, such activity to include:

  • Effectively managing your own time, workload, and resources.
  • Participation in an annual performance review (appraisal), including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of your own development activity.
  • Taking responsibility for own development and learning by following through objectives set at appraisal.
  • Ensuring attendance at identified training events.
  • Attending induction training, mandatory training and mandatory updates as required.
