About the role
We are seeking a technically skilled and forward-thinking IT Director to lead the IT department, ensuring the effective management, organisation, and performance of all IT functions, including Trackside IT, Infrastructure and DevOps, Enterprise Platforms, and Architecture and Cybersecurity. This role requires both hands-on technical expertise and strategic oversight to align the department’s capabilities with the company’s broader operational objectives. IT Director will be responsible for overseeing the company's IT infrastructure, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, and driving innovation in support of operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
- Define, agree and execute the IT strategy & objectives across all IT functions ensuring alignment with broader business objectives and operational needs.
- Lead the delivery of best-in-class IT services across the organisation, focusing on efficiency, stable and reliable services, innovation, and improving business processes. Proactively seek opportunities to introduce new capabilities and improve existing services.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and business needs, recommending solutions to optimise internal operations and provide a competitive edge. Monitor emerging business needs to discover ways in which the business can gain competitive advantage.
- Understand and effectively manage the functional resource plan/requirements to drive the best utilisation and efficiency of labour and technology capabilities to service the organisational requirements. Directly oversee the functional resource plan, ensuring high performance and accountability.
- Oversee and improve IT profile & service delivery through understanding, mapping & developing the IT Supply to Meet Business Demand Framework, ensuring the IT infrastructure supports the business requirements. Place appropriate governance against this framework.
- Develop and manage the IT Budget, ensuring financial alignment with organisational goals, including the IT investment plan and IT costing plan aligned to the AMR budgetary framework and existing regulations. Plan and strategise to control costs, improve productivity, and ensure return of investment (ROI) on any expenditure.
- Oversee the selection and implementation of suitable technology to streamline internal operations and help optimise their strategic benefits.
- Establish effective partnerships with vendors, sponsors, suppliers, IT providers and other related parties to advance technological solutions or support opportunities to benefit the business.
- Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing IT team. Mentor and empower team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring the IT function is future-proofed through effective talent management and succession planning, to future proof the function, in a highly competitive industry. Manage performance & development through the Company’s appraisal process.
- Lead, effectively manage and develop direct reports, providing clear direction to ensure exacting standards are consistently achieved and maintained. Motivate and empower leaders to advance their skills, capability and working behaviours to achieve a high performing IT function, using Company values (We Are Racing GREEN) as guiding principles.
- Effectively manage project assignments, ensuring that IT projects align with the department’s strategy. Delegate responsibility to team leaders to maximise efficiency and throughput of performance.
- Monitor and evaluate the department’s performance through key metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with business goals. Implement lessons-learnt reviews and develop ongoing improvement plans to ensure performance and reliability. Track and communicate business value, compare metrics to performance plan.
- Define and implement effective communication channels across the function, encouraging active input and engagement from all team members. Facilitate efficient and effective communication with the wider business, and across various levels, as appropriate.

- Any other duties as reasonably requested aligned to you job role.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Proven experience in a senior IT management role (IT Director or similar managerial role) with strong technical proficiency across core areas coupled with a background of providing practical solutions or capabilities whilst successfully enacting them, thus enabling people to do their jobs more effectively.
- BSc/BA in computer science, engineering or relevant field; Advanced degrees such as MSc/MA preferred.
- Deep knowledge of IT systems, infrastructure and cloud technologies, with a background in designing / developing, implementing and managing IT solutions.
- Budgeting and business acumen: Experience managing IT budgets, with a strong understanding of cost control, return on investment (ROI), and how IT can drive business performance. Exceptional understanding of data analysis, strategic mindset to align IT functions with broader business goals. Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical involvement with big-picture planning.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong leadership skills, with a proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams. Excellent ability to mentor, motivate, and lead technical staff.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities at all levels, both internally and externally, with the capability to engage at all organisational levels.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Proven problem-solving skills with a flexible, adaptable approach to working in a dynamic business setting.
- Strong experience managing internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment between IT services and business requirements.
- Ability to calmly and confidently work under pressure to achieve targets and deliver results within required timescales
- To have a flexible attitude and ability to work as part of a team in a demanding and rapidly changing environment
- Be results orientated and be confident in your decision-making skills
- Be enthusiastic and versatile and be able to build, develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues
