Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust An exciting opportunity has arisen in our newly expanded strategic finance function at CUH. As the Deputy Head of Strategic Finance you will play a vital role in the development of Trust wide business planning, and supporting the long term planning and oversight of the financial performance and transformational change required to establish a stable and sustainable financial position for the Trust.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivery, and be able to manage multiple processes, projects and drive change. The post holder will be able to lead and motivate teams effectively, including those outside of their management chain.
You will report to the Associate Director of Strategic Finance, and will have the opportunity to work across the Trust with senior clinical and operational colleagues, building an impressive network. Provide financial leadership to support the Clinical & Corporate teams, alongside the PMO and Transformation team, in using all available informatics to deliver a sustainable financial plan for the next 3-5 years ensuring clinical quality and safety is maintained.
Lead on elements of the planning and oversight of the financial aspects of the Trust's business planning and the associated recovery transformation programme, including long term planning and CIP delivery programmes.
Take a leading role in supporting the business planning and budget setting process within the Finance function and across other teams in the Trust.
Develop expert knowledge of and lead on providing advice to the Trust and the wider system in relation to the benchmarked performance of the Trust. Help to develop and maintain the narrative for the positioning of the Trust in these datasets to support improvements in financial performance and the standing of the Trust, and drive conversations across the Trust to reset the underlying financial position.
To actively contribute to the Trust's financial management training programme for non-finance staff including the design of training material.

Fully qualified Professional Accountancy Qualification (i.e. ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA)
Record of continued professional development
Project management qualification e.g. Prince 2, Managing Successful Projects of equivalent
Several years' experience at a senior management level
Advanced technical & personal skills and competencies acquired from experience across a range of accountancy functions at a senior level.
Experience of providing financial support or leadership to large scale CIP/Transformation programmes, including assessing viability of initiatives and or assurance of delivery and benefits
Experience of business planning within a large organisation
Experience of leading business planning elements in an acute NHS setting
Experience of budget setting software
Specialist, expert knowledge of specific NHS policies/procedure for example Payment by Results, Coding, Patient Choice, Foundation Trusts
Managing large volumes of data to create and develop models using advance spreadsheets techniques.
Advanced technical and personal skills and competencies acquired from experience across a range of accountancy functions at a senior level
Working knowledge of health and social care roles, responsibilities, priorities and policy direction
Strong communication skills, able to express subject matter expertise confidently and authoritatively to both finance and non finance staff and listen attentively and genuinely to others.
Strong numerical and analytical skills including the ability to make sound judgements and decisions on highly complex issues to minimise financial risk in situations where there is multiplicity of targets/objectives, and imperfect information
Able to model large volumes of data and complex scenarios in order to support business planning processes and analysis, including use of tools such as intermediate Excel and NHS Comparator tools
Flexible and adaptable to change
