A global Defence client with HQ’s around the U.K are looking to bring onboard either a Security cleared or willing to be security cleared Mass Properties Specialist to join the team based either in Manchester, Bristol, Brough, Portsmouth, Barrow, Frimley or Weymouth. Although the base location for this opportunity will be mentioned above, the role is hybrid remote in the local HQ.

Due to the nature of the project, you’ll be working on, we are specifically looking for candidates with extensive experience with Weights/Mass Properties working on Submarines (Or similar maritime projects), Aerospace or Automotive projects, this is an essential requirement due to the nature of the role.

What you’ll be doing:
Collating mass property data for equipment and systems to deliver weight and centroid control on multi-billion-pound submarine programmes
Support the Mass Properties Lead to aggregate weight and centroid reports and present the status to the Chief Naval Architect
Collaborate with system design engineers to accurate estimate mass, centroid and design maturity of multiple mechanical and electronic systems
Maintain a comprehensive database of parts mass properties
Provide input to and lead weight saving strategies and maintain the list of weight risk and opportunities for each discipline area
Interrogate CAD models to determine estimates for mass properties with associated uncertainties
Utilise statistical analysis to provide a whole boat picture of weight risk and opportunity to senior leaders, stakeholders and customers

Essential key skills:
Mass Properties or Weights engineering experience is essential
Electrical design background would be a distinct advantage
Strong background in Mechanical Design
Working in a safety critical environment (Aerospace/Nuclear ect)
Qualified in STEM subject (Ideally Mechanical Engineering)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
