Who we are looking for

A Site Reliability Engineering Team Leader, who will help facilitate and drive activity and efforts of the team to deliver effective technical solutions to operational problems.

The Site Reliability team works with several sections across the business, ensuring that our critical applications continue to run effectively, requiring minimal overhead and manual intervention to maintain, whilst offering effective insights into system health.

You will lead a team responsible for developing solutions using a range of technologies to solve operational problems. You will assess both the quality and efficiency of deliverables, actively contributing to and championing continuous improvements. You will maintain a skilled, engaged and empowered team whilst also ensuring that our processes and technology are efficient and effective.

The team works with a number of core technologies including Python, Golang, JavaScript, Kafka, New Relic, Splunk, Influx, Grafana and Ansible.

This role is eligible for inclusion in the Company’s hybrid working from home policy.

Preferred Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Commercial experience with leading engineering teams in the delivery of high quality technical solutions.
  • Passion for working with technology and software development processes and practices.
  • Strong experience working in a large scale, 24/7 enterprise, where system uptime and stability is of paramount importance.
  • Ability to take the lead whilst being adaptable, to ensure the best outcome for the Business.
  • Well organised and skilled in effective time management, people management, coaching, conflict resolution, task allocation, delegation and risk management.
  • Keen interest in industry trends, particularly DevOps.
  • Strong appetite for learning.
  • Ability to handle and thrive under pressure, often multitasking and dealing with reprioritisation of work.
  • Ability to be accountable, setting high expectations of your work and to learn from mistakes in an open and transparent way.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assisting in driving the provision of a capable, reactive, motivated and delivery focused team.
  • Enforcing governance of quality, rules, standards and processes ensuring solutions meet business needs.
  • Ensuring development processes are conducted in a timely fashion.
  • Planning and tracking works as prioritised by the product, project and development management.
  • Identifying and mitigating risk.
  • Removing blockers to delivery.
  • Working through dependencies.
  • Mentoring members of the team, providing performance feedback and inputting into developer appraisals.
  • Contributing to the evolution and continuous improvement of team processes and approaches, whilst ensuring distribution of knowledge.
  • Working with managers to support and enable Incident and Problem Management.
