Java/ Kotlin Engineer Join one of the UK’s fastest-growing challenger banks as we continue to redefine what modern banking looks like. About the Role As a Backend Engineer, you’ll be part of a high-performing, cross-functional engineering team working on systems that power millions of daily customer interactions. You’ll design and build event-driven, cloud-native services using modern JVM technologies — with a strong emphasis on clean architecture, performance, and reliability. This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days per week in our London office to collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers. What You’ll Do Develop scalable microservices using Java and/or Kotlin Design APIs and build integrations across our core financial systems Work with event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar) Write clean, testable, maintainable code following best practices Contribute to technical design discussions and architecture decisions Collaborate within an agile, product-focused environment Help improve platform reliability, observability, and performance Tech Stack Languages: Kotlin, Java Frameworks: Spring Boot, Ktor (desirable) Cloud: AWS (Lambda, ECS, S3, DynamoDB, RDS) Messaging: Kafka, SNS/SQS Tools: Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Terraform Methodologies: TDD/BDD, CI/CD, trunk-based development What We’re Looking For Strong experience with Java and/or Kotlin in production systems Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems Experience with cloud-native development (AWS preferred) Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases Familiarity with event-driven architectures Passion for clean code, testing, and engineering excellence Excellent communication and a collaborative mindset Why Join Us?
