Computational Linguistics and NLP Engineer


Position Overview

We seek an adept Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engineer to enhance our forward-thinking team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing sophisticated vector space models and deploying comprehensive NLP solutions utilising deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and PyGeometric. This role requires collaboration with Product Owners and Digital Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of cutting-edge linguistic technology into production settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualised, developed, and deployed advanced NLP algorithms, focusing on vector space models (contextual representation learning) for intricate language understanding and manipulation.
  • Expertise in designing, developing and verifying neural network architectures using deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and PyGeometric.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to construct, benchmark, and implement models tailored to organisational and product goals.
  • Facilitate the deployment of machine learning models into production environments, with an emphasis on efficiency and scalability.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in NLP, applying innovative approaches to enhance system capabilities.
  • Liaise with Product Owners to meticulously define specifications and translate them into robust technological applications.
  • Engage in rigorous code review processes, endorsing the team's dedication to superior code quality and engineering standards.
  • Assess the performance of NLP models and systems post-implementation, employing advanced machine learning metrics.
  • Utilise frameworks like ML Flow for tracking experiments, managing machine learning pipelines, and orchestrating model deployment.
  • Document the development process, architecture, and operational guidelines comprehensively.

Requirements

  • A Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of pertinent experience in NLP, with a concentrated expertise in vector space models.
  • Deep familiarity with deep learning, particularly with frameworks such as PyTorch and PyGeometric.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, evaluation, and production implementation of machine learning models.
  • Proficiency with machine learning metrics and the use of frameworks like ML Flow to track model performance.
  • Experience with cloud services and solutions.
  • Agile methodology experience and the ability to function effectively in a team setting.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, capable of elucidating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities and adaptability in a dynamic, progressive work environment.

Desirable Skills

  • A published body of work in NLP or associated fields.
  • Expertise in containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in RESTful API integration and microservices architecture.
  • Insight into DevOps methodologies and instrumentation.
