Your new role

Senior Lawyer

As a Lawyer with experience in property law, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the second Road Investment Strategy, encountering diverse and exciting legal challenges along the way. Although you will predominantly advise on property matters you may also be required to get involved in various property litigation matters and other areas of the business, meaning no two days are the same. We are responsible for delivering some of the largest infrastructure projects in England, as a result the work you will be entrusted to complete will have a significant impact on us delivering what we have promised.

The role is open to all who meet the basic requirements however it is felt it would be particularly suited to a lawyer with 4 years and above PQE. This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career.

Hybrid role, with main office The Cube, Birmingham - (40% office based) Some travel will also be required occasionally for team meetings or to facilitate media events within the region.

What you'll be leading on

  • General drafting, negotiating and advising on leases, licenses, transfer deeds and property contracts, easements and wayleaves.
  • Providing property litigation advice on a wide range of issues including encroachment on our land, defending adverse possession claims, advising on Landlord and Tenant issues including leasehold disputes.
  • Providing advice to the business on land ownership, electronic communications code, powers of statutory undertakers and statutory powers available to National Highways.
  • Providing property support on the delivery of highway schemes under the Highways Act 1980.
  • Assisting the team leader with the supervision of junior member of the team;
  • Assisting with general and varied legal queries affecting the business.

To be successful you'll need

  • Qualified Lawyer
  • Experience of property and property litigation law.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders and influence across all levels of the business.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, project teams and external consultants.
  • You will demonstrate a willingness to travel between offices when required.

A bit about us

The Legal Services Directorate encompasses the company's legal team. They provide an effective legal service to the company, and support the Board, Chief Executive and its committees on a wide range of issues. The team provide strategic legal advice on commercial, planning, operational and legislative matters, supporting the Road Investment Strategy and ensuring legal compliance and limiting risk exposure.
