Are you highly organised, detail-driven, and passionate about keeping publishing workflows running smoothly? Do you thrive in a role where accuracy, consistency, and great collaboration ensure high-quality content is delivered on time? Could you be our next Publishing Controller, helping to support the publication of IET journals and conference proceedings? Up to £28,000 Fixed Term Contract until February 2027 / Full Time Stevenage with Hybrid Working At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people. At the IET you’ll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you’ll grow – professionally and personally – in ways you never thought possible. We’re also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working. What you'll be doing As a Publishing Controller, you’ll play an essential role in ensuring the smooth, accurate and timely delivery of IET Conference Proceedings and Journals. You’ll be part of the team that keeps our publishing workflows running efficiently by supporting peer review, managing production processes, and carrying out quality assurance checks to ensure every piece of content meets our publishing ethics, standards and schedules. Working closely with the Publishing Services Manager, you’ll help keep multiple systems and workflows moving seamlessly. You’ll monitor the ingestion of Wiley-produced journal content, support the processing of conference papers during busy periods, and help maintain the reliability and compliance of all IET publications across the IET Digital Library, Inspec, and third-party platforms. As part of the role, you’ll also contribute to the ongoing development of our publishing operations, which will include everything from identifying opportunities to streamline workflows through to supporting new journals, conferences, and system enhancements. This is a role where your attention to detail, organisational strength, and commitment to quality will make a real difference to the authors, editors and partners who rely on us. What we hope you can bring to the role We’re looking for someone who’s confident working in editorial, production, or academic publishing support roles, with an understanding of how content moves through peer review, production, and delivery. You’ll be comfortable using (or learning) industry-standard platforms and content management systems, and you’ll take pride in ensuring processes are accurate, efficient, and consistent. You’ll bring strong organisation and time management skills, and you’ll be able to keep multiple tasks on track and deliver to deadlines. You’ll also be a clear communicator who enjoys problem-solving, working collaboratively, and contributing to a positive team culture. If you have an interest in XML, file handling, or digital publishing workflows (or the enthusiasm to develop these skills), this role offers plenty of opportunity to grow. Above all, you’ll be someone who embraces continuous improvement, supports colleagues, and strives to do their very best. A Little More About The Role Manage the production and publishing processes for assigned conferences, ensuring papers are delivered on time, on budget and to the highest standards. Identify opportunities to improve workflows and systems, contributing to greater efficiency across publishing operations. Provide day-to-day support for conference processing, ensuring business continuity during peak periods or colleague absence. Monitor the accurate ingestion of final journal files supplied by external partners into internal systems. Support the Publishing Services Manager with new journals, new conferences and the integration of content into peer review and production systems. Assist with annual planning activities and work collaboratively with the wider content team. Participate in tender processes where required and deputise for the Publishing Services Manager when appropriate. A Little More About What We’re Looking For Experience in editorial, production, or academic publishing support, with an understanding of publishing workflows and timelines. Familiarity with peer review or content management systems, with the confidence to learn new platforms. Basic knowledge of XML and digital content processes (or the willingness to develop these skills through training). A commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with industry tools and developments. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively. We’d love to get to know you Is Imposter syndrome creeping in? Don’t worry – we’d rather hear from you this time than not hear from you at all Download the full job description for a little more information about the role; but also, keep in mind that we’re open to discussing flexible ways of working, including reduced hours and working in an agile way, supported by a hybrid working framework that allows you to find the best place to do your best work.
