The ISIS Neutron and Muon Source within the Science and Technology Facilities Council is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences. We support a national and international community of more than 3000 scientists to research into subjects ranging from clean energy and the environment, pharmaceuticals and health care, through to nanotechnology and materials engineering, catalysis and polymers, and on to fundamental studies of materials.
Software is a vital part of all science at ISIS. The ISIS computing division is a growing area and plays an important role in supporting the ISIS facility. It provides all of the software needs for our scientists. The User Programme Software group provides the web sites and services for our experimental user programmes, including proposal management, scheduling and safety assessment for experiments and other critical services.

We are looking for a software engineering manager to join our group. You will line manage a small team of software engineers at various stages in their career and will get to know the best ways to help individuals and teams succeed. You will be involved in the software development lifecycle putting on the relevant hats to unblock and ensure the team's success including, for example, deploying to and running our production environment. We use a customer-centric approach to provide solutions that enable the scientists and engineers we work with to provide an effective User Programme across multiple facilities. We collaborate and align our work with other teams across the division and in other facilities to make sure we develop and implement technologies effectively.
The role is UK based, either at our campus in Oxfordshire, home-based or a hybrid. Sponsorship may be available if appropriate. You will have a degree, or equivalent, as well as experience in software development and experience/high potential for managing people effectively. You will advocate for good practice in all our software development including maintenance.

Experience of line management including coaching and developing staff and managing performance (S&I)
Experience of developing high quality software with a good broad understanding of agile methodologies in software development. (High emotional intelligence to manage software engineers at different stages of their career including actively supporting their professional/career development.
