We are driving positive change in the agricultural industry and your skills could help us do it. We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Computer Vision Engineer to join a dynamic, engaging, and multidisciplinary team working in AgriTech R&D.

This position is suitable for someone who is self-motivated, organized and a problem-solver, and with demonstrable experience in developing unique solutions to problems through the application of machine learning and computer vision. You will be joining a new, exciting, recently funded project that is driving towards a commercial product to be deployed in the field.

As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and evaluating machine learning and computer vision models to detect fungal infections in root crops, such as onions. Alongside this, you will have the opportunity to drive data collection protocols to ensure high-quality data.

Join our multidisciplinary team of machine learning engineers, software developers, hardware engineers, scientists, and project management professionals, all working to bring new, innovative solutions to issues seen within the fresh produce industry. You will be based at the B-hive Innovation offices, that are integrated into the Lincoln Science and Innovation Park, in the heart of Lincoln.

The role will involve delivering science in line with milestones and deliverables on an innovative research project being carried out between B-hive Innovations and external collaborators.

The primary focus of the role will be to design, implement, and validate novel machine learning and computer vision algorithms that allow growers to detect fusarium basal rot in onions at different stages (e.g. in the field, on a belt towards storage, in storage). The job holder will be expected to disseminate progress and results both internally and also in external project meetings, as well as at conferences/trade shows or other events.

Design, develop, and validate novel computer vision and machine learning algorithms to detect fusarium basal rot in onions in the field, during harvest, and before storage. Ensure data integrity, including maintaining data storage systems, developing, and establishing data processing pipelines, and performing regular data cleaning and validation tasks. In conjunction with the Marketing Manager, represent B-Hive Innovations at external events (conferences, trade shows) and help to communicate project results to peers and to lay members of the agricultural industry, including farmers. To keep abreast of scientific findings within the field of machine learning and computer vision, with emphasis on applications to the agritech field. The job holder will report to the Head of Machine Learning at B-hive Innovations. Holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or a related field.
· Has a least three years of experience designing, developing, and validating computer vision computer vision
Has demonstrable experience with Python, deep learning and computer vision libraries (e.g., PhD in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or similar.
· Experience with Amazon Web Services.
· Experience working in an Agile environment and using management tools (e.g. Has a driving license that permits them to drive within the UK
