Reporting into the Head of EHS, promote a positive health and safety culture within the workplace and across the business by maintaining a visible and proactive presence—advising, guiding, and mentoring the workforce from senior managers to frontline operators in all aspects of Health and Safety Management. This includes ensuring that both legislative and operational safety expectations are fully understood, implemented, and consistently met. The role requires the practical application of in-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
As a H&S Compliance Lead, you will ensure that the site, its process plant, employees, and contractors operate in full alignment with current health and safety legislation, internal procedures, and industry guidance.
The primary function of the role is to work closely with the H&S Lead, as well as internal stakeholders and specialist consultants, to ensure that plant design, operational practices, and risk controls support a safe working environment and uphold the company’s licence to operate.
Support the development and implementation of site-wide behavioural safety programmes, including tracking of leading and lagging KPIs.
Provide technical expertise and ensure compliance with ISO45001 standards and other relevant health and safety legislation.
Conduct benchmarking and GAP analysis of site health and safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
Assist in the rationalisation and alignment of health and safety documentation with current legislation, codes of practice, and industry guidance.
Support internal and external health and safety audits, ensuring findings are addressed and improvements tracked.
Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement with leadership and collaboration across departments.
Support the development and implementation of emergency response protocols and assist in coaching Incident Controllers for operational scenarios.
Support health surveillance and screening programmes in collaboration with Occupational Health providers.
Provide guidance on risk assessments, safety data sheets, and chemical hazard controls.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analysing safety performance indicators and identifying trends.
Assist in preparing health and safety performance reports for site leadership, highlighting key risks and improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with internal teams to embed health and safety considerations into daily operations and decision-making processes.
Maintain and update health and safety registers and documentation to ensure compliance with ISO45001 standards.
Support internal audits and assist with external inspections related to health and safety compliance.
Greater than 5 years’ experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role with cross-functional influence.
Proven involvement in emergency response planning.
Strong knowledge of behavioural safety strategies.
Skilled in data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
Excellent PC skills for documentation and system implementation.
Decisive, accurate, creative, and forward-thinking.
NEBOSH Diploma or a related discipline.
