General Manager of Animal Feeds – Freshpork NZ (Based in Christchurch)

At our Burnham facility, we operate a specialty feed mill for supply of pig feed to South Island pork producers. We have a great team who produce precision feeds that are formulated to ensure top nutrition and performance is achieved for our farming customers. With a significant capital investment program approved and underway, the business requires an experienced General Manager to help deliver on these investments and then help execute an exciting growth strategy.

Due to an upcoming retirement, we have a rare opportunity for a General Manager of Animal Feeds to join and lead our feed mill business. If you have a down to earth and practical approach, enjoy variety, have energy and enthusiasm, continue reading.

Reporting to the MD, this role covers a range of responsibilities including setting and progressing our animal feed strategy, sourcing a wide range of raw feed ingredients and liaising with our nutritional experts to formulate nutritionally based diets, sales, and oversight of our Burnham based team and site. We’re a year-round business that requires striking the balance of best practise and practical outcomes tailored for our business, people and customers.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • As an experienced leader with a collaborative people focused approach, you’ll create strong relationships through effective communication across the site and business, enabling positive outcomes through the complexities of operations while we navigate a phased upgrade of our plant over the next few years.
  • You’ll guide operational success through steady leadership, strong commercial acumen and a hands-on approach to get things done, preferably with a strong background in feed milling.
  • Managing procurement of ingredients and liaising with nutritional advisors you will help the team create top quality precision feed.
  • Through effective and commercially sound decisions, you will help create and activate a strategy to enable growth.
  • Balancing decisiveness, action and empathy, you’ll promote a culture of accountability, respect and fun.
