What does this Plant Efficiency Placement opportunity offer you?
Launch your career in Plant Efficiency with our customised training programme. Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience while being mentored by highly skilled professionals.
Joining EDF's Efficiency Placement means becoming a key player in our Nuclear Generation teams. You'll be an integral part of daily operations, contributing to the smooth running of our plant, while mastering the essential procedural and mechanical elements of the operational process.
You’ll be based at Heysham 1 Power Station, where you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues focusing on Engineering areas and systems. On the scheme, you'll have the chance to learn through hands-on experience under the guidance of highly skilled and experienced colleagues.

Training, development, and support for you
Over the course of this 12-month programme, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in hands-on learning, working on real-world challenges that directly impact the energy industry. Most of your learning will be on the job, supported by your mentor and the teams around you. You’ll have a chance to apply your academic training to genuine industry problems.
You'll gain in-depth experience within the Efficiency department at a nuclear power plant. You’ll learn about systems vital to the smooth and safe operation of the plant, including pump mechanics and an array of cooling systems. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to see how other departments within the power station function, expanding your understanding of the broader industry.
During your placement, expect no two days to be the same. In Efficiency, much of your work will be solving problems, using logical thought processes to diagnose or give advice on plant wide scenarios.

Your work location
You’ll be based on site at Heysham 1 Power Station, within the Operational Technical Support Department.
Who you are
We are looking for candidates who are on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant field, such as Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. However, those in other disciplines who have strong real-life mechanical comprehension or have pursued thermodynamics modules have also been proven to thrive in this placement.
You should possess strong technical and analytical skills, along with a genuine desire to learn and develop new capabilities. A questioning attitude, good teamwork, and effective communication skills are also essential qualities we seek.
