Summary: As a Grid Connection Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our Grid Department, responsible for facilitating the connection of Wind, Solar and BESS projects to the distribution and transmission network in the UK. Your primary responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, managing grid connection applications, analysing connection offers, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies. Additionally, you will engage with stakeholders, support due diligence activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our grid connection processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct grid feasibility studies to identify available connection capacity for renewable energy projects.
  • Engage with network operators (DNOs, NESO, TOs) to gather market intelligence and maintain project viability.
  • Complete G99 and NESO transmission connection applications, optimizing projects from technical and financial perspectives.
  • Analyse grid connection offers, mitigate risks, and achieve cost-efficient connections.
  • Monitor project pipeline compliance with grid offer milestones and regulations, engaging with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support JV partnerships from a grid perspective, maintaining project viability.
  • Advise management on grid connection costs, scope, and technical aspects.
  • Manage grid reports, trackers, and documentation for project reporting.
  • Engage with consultants, ICPs, and OEMs, ensuring effective stakeholder communication.
  • Stay updated on relevant policies and communicate them to the team.
  • Support due diligence activities for potential project acquisitions.
  • Utilize power system software for electrical power system studies (e.g., PSSE, Power Factory).

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems or similar.

Work Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical role on grid connection projects in a grid, renewables, or consultancy environment.

Competencies:

  • Experience with DNOs, TOs, ESO, and power systems.
  • Understanding of distribution and transmission connection processes and policies.
  • Knowledge of G99 process, Grid Code, CUSC, and related regulations.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and external engagement.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Proactive and analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of power system modeling tools like PSS/E or Power Factory is a plus.
