Edenthorpe Search have been tasked to identify a Chief Legal Officer (GC). Our client is a leading crypto business and is looking for an accomplished General Counsel to take ownership of all legal matters and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks in various regions. The successful candidate will have a deep expertise in blockchain technology, cryptocurrency regulation, and corporate governance. The Chief Legal Officer will play a substantial role in shaping the company's legal landscape and helping the business navigating ever changing regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Legal Guidance & Oversight: Develop and lead the legal strategy to support business objectives and ensure long-term success.
  • Advise the executive team on complex legal issues, including compliance, intellectual property, contracts, and disputes.
  • Manage internal and external legal resources, ensuring smooth operations within the legal department.
  • Regulatory Awareness & Compliance Management: Stay informed about regulatory shifts affecting the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries.
  • Ensure compliance with global laws, such as AML, KYC, securities regulations, and data protection rules.
  • Foster relationships with regulators and industry bodies to ensure proactive compliance.
  • Corporate Governance & Board Support: Counsel the Board of Directors on governance standards and regulatory practices.
  • Manage board meetings, resolutions, and documentation in line with best practices.
  • Contract & Risk Management: Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and execution of a wide variety of contracts, including partnerships and vendor agreements.
  • Implement a comprehensive contract management process and address potential legal risks through strategic mitigation.
  • Handle litigation, dispute resolution, and policy development related to risk management.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree level or above with active admission to the bar.
  • 12+ years of legal experience with a solid focus on blockchain, cryptocurrency, and corporate governance.
  • Deep understanding of evolving global regulations in cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and financial services.
  • Proven ability to balance legal risk management with business growth objectives.
