Dedicated to exploring the artistic and cultural heritage of the Islamic world, the Gallery showcases sacred relics, calligraphy, geometric design, manuscript traditions, and crafted forms that speak to universal themes of creativity, devotion, and interconnectedness. To support this mission, the Gallery is organised into three curated zones: Islamic Heritage Zone – Displaying classical and contemporary expressions of Islamic art, including sacred relics, manuscripts, devotional objects, and masterworks of calligraphy, geometry, and design. Rotating Exhibition Zone – Hosting temporary exhibitions that highlight global artistic traditions, intercultural collaborations, and thematic explorations that resonate with diverse audiences. Local Context Zone – Celebrating the creativity and history of the surrounding community, this space provides a platform for regional artists, community-led projects, and stories that anchor the Gallery within its local cultural landscape. Central to the Gallery’s identity is the preservation and presentation of treasures connected to the life and prophecy of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Through exhibitions, research, educational programmes, and public dialogue, the Gallery offers visitors from all backgrounds a deeper engagement with Islam’s spiritual, artistic, and cultural legacy. Its key objectives are to: Preserve, research, and exhibit significant artefacts and narratives from across the culturally diverse Islamic world. Promote lifelong learning, spiritual reflection, and cross-cultural dialogue through exhibitions, talks, workshops, and public programmes. Build strategic partnerships with regional, national and international museums, cultural institutions, and universities. Support contemporary artists and craftspeople while upholding authenticity, professionalism, and cultural integrity. Purpose of the Role The Gallery Manager Head of Gallery (Chief Curator) oversees every aspect of gallery leadership, from curatorial vision and educational programming to operations, partnerships, fundraising, and team development. The role ensures the Gallery fulfils its mission as a centre of excellence in Islamic art, heritage, and intercultural understanding. The postholder will be responsible for: Delivering the Gallery’s broader vision and long-term strategic goals. Leading staff and volunteers across curatorial, educational, operational, conservation, and administrative departments of the Gallery. Managing daily operations while maintaining high standards across exhibitions, collections, and visitor experience. Building relationships locally, nationally, and internationally to expand the Gallery’s impact. Ensuring financial sustainability, strong governance, and alignment with organisational values. Key Responsibilities Strategic & Curatorial Leadership Shape and deliver the Gallery’s artistic and curatorial direction in alignment with Greensville Trust’s mission and values. Develop an ambitious programme of exhibitions, research, publications, and public engagement initiatives. Integrate themes of prophecy, spirituality, intercultural exchange, and artistic innovation throughout collections and learning programmes. Oversee acquisitions, conservation, and scholarly research to enhance the Gallery’s reputation as a leading centre of Islamic art and heritage. Ensure exhibitions and collections meet UKRG standards in accreditation and ethical principles for curation, conservation, accessibility, and interpretation. Operational & Organisational Leadership Oversee facilities, visitor services, exhibition logistics, collections management, and IT systems. Manage budgets, allocate resources, and plan for long-term sustainability. Maintain strong governance, accreditation, quality standards, compliance, and reporting frameworks. Develop and implement effective policies and procedures for smooth and professional operations. Team Leadership & Development Recruit, lead, and inspire a multidisciplinary team spanning curatorial, education, conservation, operations, and administration. Develop a culture of collaboration, respect, and shared purpose aligned with the Trust’s values. Support staff development, mentorship, and training, including knowledge exchange with partner institutions. Lead volunteers, interns, and community contributors, ensuring alignment with professional standards and the Gallery’s mission. Partnerships, Networks & Sector Engagement Build and sustain strategic relationships with museums, galleries, institutions, donors, artists, and scholars worldwide. Develop partnerships for exhibition exchange and collaborative research Represent the Gallery at conferences, forums, and sector events, enhancing national and international visibility. Serve as an ambassador for Islamic art, cross-cultural understanding, and the Gallery’s wider mission. Public Engagement & Advocacy Champion the Gallery’s vision through public speaking, media engagement, and thought leadership. Ensure exhibitions and programmes are inclusive, accessible, and meaningful to diverse communities. Deliver workshops, talks, and learning programmes that connect heritage with global cultural conversations. Promote initiatives supporting artists and craftspeople, enabling community engagement and intercultural dialogue. Fundraising & Financial Sustainability o Lead fundraising, sponsorship, and philanthropic initiatives to secure sustainable resources. o Develop meaningful relationships with donors, patrons, and institutional funders. o Ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical stewardship across all development activities. Standards, Accreditation & Professional Compliance Lead the Gallery’s progression toward recognised UK and international museum standards and accreditation. Ensure compliance with established frameworks such as museum accreditation schemes, conservation benchmarks, safeguarding practices, and ethical collection standards. Oversee the development of policies, documentation, and systems required for accreditation readiness and ongoing compliance. Promote a culture of continuous improvement to maintain excellence in governance, collections care, visitor experience, and institutional accountability. Person Specification Qualifications & Equivalent Experience Essential Substantial professional experience in museums, galleries, or cultural institutions, including curatorial work and strategic management. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and oversee operations, budgets, and programme delivery. Experience developing exhibitions, research, and public engagement of national or international significance. Successful record of partnership-building, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement in the cultural sector. Desirable Advanced research experience in Islamic Art, Islamic Studies, or related fields. International experience in museum leadership, cross-cultural initiatives, or collaborative exhibitions. Contributions to thought leadership through publications, advisory roles, or conference participation. Qualifications / Equivalent Experience Advanced degree (Master’s) in Art History, Museum Studies, Islamic Art, Cultural Heritage, or a related field. Candidates without formal qualifications but with substantial senior-level experience in gallery or museum leadership, curatorial practice, and sector engagement will be considered. Demonstrated ability to lead complex cultural or faith-based institutions and deliver strategic vision may be considered equivalent to formal academic credentials.  Additional Information The Gallery Manager Head of Gallery will be based at the Mustafa Mount site in Bradford, with occasional travel to other Greensville Trust locations. Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to support the operational needs of the Trust. within a dynamic, values-driven organisation.
